Whatever his interests are, he loves the Chicoms, but was overruled by his military and by events.

Why? Because he may an Ass, but he isn’t a stupid ass; he recognizes that alliance to the one is to be made on equal terms of mutual friendship, support and economics, the alternative is eventual defeat, slavery and national extinction by the Chinese. They won’t play fair in war or peace(sic).

By early June, however, Mr Duterte surprised members of his own administration when he suspended his decision to cancel the VFA.

Duarte realized that slow joe will not win, and he knows that Trump will rip him a new asshole.

I suspect that he noticed how China invaded even India.

Why? Because it was a bluff in the first place.

Duterte is kind of a loose cannon, with a history of pulling back from extreme positions. It is his negotiating style.

Back in 2016, the Philippine govt pulled the same stunt - throwing the U.S out.

Somebody got hold of their senators and asked the if they REALLY wanted to see the Japanese Navy sailing about the Leyte Gulf again.

They reconsidered.

I heard it as Ho Chi Minh saying that accepting military aid from the ChiCom regime of Mao Tse-tung meant 1,000 more years of Chinese ookum-dookum.

Vietnamese memory still recalls it has been 1,000 years since their general Tranh Hung Dao led a revolt which threw off Chinese rule after 1,000 years of Han domination.

Ho’s communist regime accepted aid mainly from the Soviet Union during the Vietnam War. And he no doubt predicted Chinese encroachment in the South China Sea decades later; the Paracels and Spratly islands were believed to contain oil. No one anticipated in 1973 that many of these would be transformed into ChiCom bases of operations.

Recall that the ChiComs invaded Vietnam in 1979 to `establish peace’ between Hanoi & the Khmer Rouge, which was overthrown. But the NVA then counterattacked and drove the ChiComs out of Indochina.

At the time this regional war was known as “dirty commies fighting rotten commies fighting filthy commies”.

Why? Cause them Chi-Coms want to rule the world and the South China Sea is a starting point

You are 100% correct.

Completely.

The Vietnam war ended two entire generations ago.

As strange as it may have been to say, thank God for the NVA in 1979, or else millions more Cambodians would have perished.

The one thing I came to learn by my observations living in that world at one time is that the Asiansphere can be pragmatic at times.
