I get that you're joking; but, there's so much redefining words these days, it would be hard to tell in a different forum.

Mandatory comes from manus the Latin for hand. It has nothing to do with 'man', which is of Germanic origin. Similarly, 'mandate' has nothing to do with a pre-arranged meeting with a man.

Manager is another word derived from manus. I once attended a work meeting, where a woman objected to calling managers 'manager' -- she wanted something that wasn't 'sexist'. I enjoyed setting her straight on the etymology.
