Yeah the number seems highly suspect. Basically they are saying that one of every 330 Americans bought a copy. Estimating 30 millions are illiterate, that's one in every 300. Last stats I can find from 2018 show about 48 Million Americans are aged 11 and under, and I know none of them bought a copy, so that's one in every 252 Americans who allegedly bought the book on the same day. I just don't see it happening.

Book sales are a classic money laundering mechanism for politicians. Consider as a more recent instance the “Healthy Hanna” book sold by the now convicted former mayor of Baltimore. The book was a bribe masquerading as a book.
