Chicago, New York and other large cities have seen a significant rise in shootings and other violence this summer, even as activists on the left are calling for cities to “defund” police departments.

“The governor and the mayor, and the senators out there — they’re afraid of these people,” Mr. Trump said. “That’s the reason they don’t want us to help. They’re afraid, I really believe they’re actually maybe even physically afraid of these people.”

Mr. Trump said he acted in Portland only after 51 straight days of civil unrest.

He’s right to some degree. Some of the mayors and Guvners are part of the rebellion, true. But, as libs have shown by caving in to jihadis, and their draft dodging in the 60s-70s, they are cowards. But when there might be some real opposition from people willing to use violence the lefties will knuckle under every time.

The progs running these vivtimized areas are afraid to "provoke" the anarchists and nihilists lest they do more damage. Trump's feds get some initial resistance/violence which is quickly overcome, round up the miscreants, lock 'em up for safe keeping, then move to the next disturbance. Once the example is set that force will be met by overwhelming force, the rioters will realize their game has ended. That's how it's done. It's the strategy the military also favors.

I doubt that. The Democrats are in general agreement with these rioters and view them as politically useful in keeping unrest going until the elections.

True, but the public at large isn’t there yet.

Trump first has to present the much needed assistance as being something the mayors need, but are “too afraid” to ask for. The people will get that.

Then, when the mayors bite off the helping hand that is stopping the violence, Trump will be able to start wondering aloud if there’s something wrong with these mayors. Something sinister, even. The people will get that, too. Trump has to guide the public at large to seeing the enemy the way we see them.
