If you’re looking for peak idiocy from academic institutions that are falling all over themselves to kowtow to the mob’s notions of “social justice,” look no further.
The English Department at Rutgers University has declared that proper use of grammar is a hidden form of racism because it disadvantages students of “multilingual, non-standard ‘academic’ English backgrounds.”
Grammar is rather boring, so the department is going to sex it up with all sorts of fascinating additions.
The “critical grammar” approach challenges the standard academic form of the English language in favor of a more inclusive writing experience. The curriculum puts an emphasis on the variability of the English language instead of accuracy.
“This approach challenges the familiar dogma that writing instruction should limit emphasis on grammar/sentence-level issues so as to not put students from multilingual, non-standard ‘academic’ English backgrounds at a disadvantage,” Walkowitz said. “Instead, it encourages students to develop a critical awareness of the variety of choices available to them [with] regard to micro-level issues in order to empower them and equip them to push against biases based on ‘written’ accents.”
“Variability instead of accuracy” means incorrect usage of grammatical norms. It’s nice that someone speaks a foreign language, but isn’t the whole point of teaching proper grammar teaching foreigners the proper way to speak English?

Unfortunately, Rutgers apparently missed the mark with some activists. Aside from being incomprehensibly stupid, the change is, itself, virulently racist.
Leonydus Johnson, a speech pathologist and libertarian activist, said the school’s change makes the racist assumption that minorities cannot comprehend traditional English. Johnson called the change “insulting, patronizing, and in itself, extremely racist.”

So we need to push Ebonics? We need to be non judgemental about someone using double negatives or saying words such as “ain’t” because it will hurt someone’s self esteem?
This sounds like a metaphor for the ongoing attacks against our society. There are no rules and no standards on anything else, thus of course there should be no rules on proper grammar.
If math and grammar are racist, there is really no reason to have public schools or universities.
I honestly don’t want my child wasting her life by borrowing money to go to a university that will actively refuse to educate her. We have a few years to figure it out but Rutgers is out (I live in NJ and my wife and I are both Rutgers alumni from when it was still good).

The current crop of leftist/racial activists and BLM will set black Americans back by 30 years. For their own selfish and evil political ends, they are pushing a narrative of permanent victimhood, entitlement, dependency on government, and finally - rage.

I split my MLIS degree between UT Austin and Rutgers. Rutgers was no great shakes even in the mid-1990s

They haven’t used it again, and in a sane world most people would be horrified.
But some liberals are incredibly stupid. They fall for every lie CNN tells, and call Trump a liar. I keep asking them to name one single lie, and to date not one of them has been able to.
So being educated is now racist. Rutgers should just close it’s doors then.
FOX news hosts sit like lumps on logs when the liberal guests repeats the lie that Trump has told thousands of lies. I have never seen one single push back on this.
