San Francisco Giants pitcher Sam Coonrod was the only player to stand during a moment honoring the Black Lives Matter movement ahead of the season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, telling reporters after the game that as a Christian he cant kneel before anything besides God.
MLB provided teams with a long black ribbon that players on both sides jointly held as they kneeled in unity.
Every player and coach from the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees took part in the demonstration ahead of their game, but hours later, Coonrod stood alone.
Im a Christian," he said, according to TMZ Sports. So I just believe that I cant kneel before anything besides God.
Aside from his religious beliefs, the 27-year-old relief pitcher said there are aspects of the movement that he disagrees with.
"I just cant get on board with a couple things Ive read about Black Lives Matter, how they lean towards Marxism, he continued. And they said some negative things about the nuclear family. I just cant get on board with that.
Team manager Gabe Kapler, who kneeled during the ribbon ceremony as well as during the national anthem, said he respects Coonrods decision to stand.
"The one thing that we said is we were going to let people express themselves, Kapler said. We were going to give them the choice on whether they were going to stand, kneel or do something else. That was a personal decision for Sam.

God bless him!
And I hear there is a Pittsburgh Steeler (a black player) who says he wont either. Because of the life this country has given to his family, which came from poverty in the Caribbean.
Pun most assuredly intended
He’ll find himself on the chopping block at first opportunity. Resistance to wokeness will not be tolerated.
(Football hasnt started yet but the Steeler is just making it clear he wont kneel when it does.)
The color doesn’t matter...nor does the sex. We’re destined to kneel to God...and *only* to God!
Yes but for the football player he was talking about he chooses to *stand* for the national anthem specifically.
Absolutely. And my guess is that he understood that going in.
Love that!
I don’t care. All sports, pro and college, are dead to me.
(Except Women’s Beach Volleyball)
Id like to go back to the regular old family, without all the isotopes.
Although not all American families achieved it striving to be like the Cleavers wasn’t a horrible thing. But then,I suppose June doing the dishes in pearls might have been a bit overboard.
Many will take the mark of the beast just to buy or sell. Christians will not.
At the great white throne of judgement, every knee shall bow and confess:
Romans 14:11-12 (KJV)
[11] For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
[12] So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
But it will be too late. They will be judged for their works in this life. After theyve been suffering in Hell for 1000+ years, imagine their horror when they discover that their apparent reprieve is only momentary. They are then cast into the lake of fire for all eternity (Revelation 20, 21).
Today is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)
[2] (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Dont wait, the offer expires at death.
John 11:25-26 (KJV)
[25] Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
[26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
... while you live and believe.
Stand tall, Sam.
You’re an American.
Fine, it’s still a cop out. I’m not sure Jesus would be proud of his “using” Jesus as cover.
I found no admonition in the bible against kneeling. All references were either Jesus kneeling or others kneeling before or to Him.
The other players are not “kneeling/bowing down” in respect or reverence of the flag or national anthem, JUST THE OPPOSITE!
Does this Christian think that God doesn’t know that he is using God as cover? Foolish man.
Using God as an excuse, to stand up to peer pressure.
I like me some Coonrod.
Hes a Giants top 30 prospect, pre-arbitration under team control for several more years, and he makes league minimum. Plenty of teams would take him immediately should he be available.
RE: All references were either Jesus kneeling or others kneeling before or to Him.
Wasn’t Jesus kneeling before God the Father IN PRAYER? (Luke 22:41-42 )
Others kneel before or to Him because HE is the Son of God.
Now about that kneeling when the National Anthem is being played, what is this kneeling supposed to represent?
RE: Using God as an excuse, to stand up to peer pressure.
So, did Daniel and his friends use God as an excuse to stand up to King Nebuchadnezzar?
