Menswear retailer Tailored Brands Inc. TLRD, -21.23%, the parent company of Men's Wearhouse and Jos. A. Banks, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported. The clothier has been hit hard by pandemic-related store shutdowns, reporting last month that first-quarter sales were down 60%. Since July 1, Tailored Brands has missed missed interest payments on bonds, slashed its corporate workforce by 20%, announced plans to close up to 500 stores and was notified that it will be delisted by the New York Stock Exchange. The company operated more than 1,400 stores in the U.S. and Canada as of Feb. 1, and employed more than 1,900 people. Earlier in the day, fellow troubled retailer Lord & Taylor also filed for bankruptcy.

That is a shame.
Mens Wearhouse has been the only place from which Ive bought suits in the last 20 years.
The pandemic probably just hastened the inevitable. Today’s soy boys and pajama boys have no taste for good clothes.
I buy all my shirts & suits from Jos. A Bank. Great fit. Good tailoring services. It’s a shame.
People who work from home have no need for them. Times have changed, business suits are obsolete.
I have not worn a dress shirt since March. I’ve got them all in plastic wrap. Working from home.
In my neck of the woods, suits are either for very low level or very high level jobs. Everyone else is business casual or even the Steve Jobs route.
I have a friend in the dry cleaning business. Not doing so well, either.
I have had women friends who wish there was something similar to Mens Wearhouse for them.
Too much engineer in me to concentrate on fashion...until I started dating some very hot women.
Yes I have noticed too, even before the virus, that “business casual” has become the “dress code” more and more in the business world, and formal business suits are seen less and less.
And many companies nowadays have relaxed dress codes, so that wearing a suit and tie to work is not required or expected anymore.
The whole “casual Friday” idea has moved on to the rest of the week. Now casual Friday means jeans and T shirts in some workplaces.
I hope so.
Never could stand wearing suit and tie.
I used to travel the country as a partner to a salesman. I was a “sales engineer”. I was a salesman as well as the “technical guy” for sales calls to large corporations. My motto was, the farther east I was going, the more ties and white shirts I needed to pack. :)
My office was in Seattle. Wearing a suit and tie to appointments there looked stupid.
Good friend of mine, who manages a Jos. A. Bank store, tells me that the soy boys and metrosexuals are buying loads of those skinny suits with highwater pants.
The few suits I have are all from Jos. A Bank.
“..the only place...”
Same here. Great store, great folks.
Sad to hear this.
And they've succeeded.
For me, shirt pockets are essential. They hold my pens, cell phone, passport, etc. that I would rather not put in my pants pockets. But for some reason shirt pockets are against Men’s Wearhouse’s religion. I went shirt-shopping there last year and none of their shirts featured pockets.
So is Robert Hall out of business too?
” My motto was, the farther east I was going, the more ties and white shirts I needed to pack. :)”
...and I have not bought a tie in over ten years.
