I'm actually loving this gaiter controversy. Did you see the flood of articles in the last week claiming gaiters are worse than not wearing a mask at all? Apparently they have a 110% inefficiency rating - where no mask at all is 100% and a perfect mask is 0%.
Although I am yet to be somewhere requiring a mask, if I had to it would be a gaiter. My anti-virtue statement. "Oh, I though they said I had to have a cloth covering my nose and mouth. Isn't this a cloth? Am I doing it wrong?" :)
A neck gaiter is way too hot, and restricts air flow too much. I have to go into mask-requiring places sometimes, and I wear masks made from cheesecloth. Plenty of air.
A few days ago, I didn’t have a mask handy, so I took a paper fast-food napkin, unfolded it, and tucked an edge up beneath my sunglasses so that it hung over my nose and mouth. Several people appeared to think that was pretty funny.
