No, the real reason is this: wearing masks is very popular with the democrat base. The democrat base has bought the narrative that wearing a mask is more about protecting others than protecting yourself. To them, it has become the highest form of selfishness to not wear a mask.
But it's OK for them to support taking my money to support their social programs. They believe in Leftist Groupthink and one size fits all solutions.
