Victoria and New South Wales residents could remain banned from Queensland indefinitely as the Premier insists the borders will not reopen until there is zero community transmission.

Qld recorded zero new cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, marking 28 days since the last case of community transmission was detected.

“We will always put Queenslanders first,” Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“We do not have any intentions of opening any borders whilst there is community transmission active in Victoria and NSW.”

The Sunshine State currently has eight active cases.

Australia has a mandatory 14-day quarantine for anyone, Australian or otherwise, coming in from abroad. It’s rumored that the latest round of infections came from bored individuals who got a little too social (in a horizontal sense) with the guards, who then shared the wealth with their circle of colleagues, friends and relatives, and so on.

How long do they plan to keep an entire population in isolation from the rest of the world? This is not a solution, it’s avoidance.

FYI, the guards are making sure that that the people being forcibly quarantined in hotels stay in the hotels. But fraternization with quarantined hotel guests was apparently not being curbed.

Australia has so little covid, they are welcome to visit lots of countries; HOWEVER (not my favourite politicians quoted, but they are correct on this matter)!!!

16 Aug: Sydney Morning Herald: ‘On par with North Korea’: Three out of four requests to leave Australia refused
By Caitlin Fitzsimmons
“This is an extreme measure for extreme times but it cannot be something we contemplate keeping in place for the long term,” Mr Sharma said. “There’s no other country of which I’m aware that is imposing an exit permit system, like we’ve got in Australia.”...

The Australian Border Force told this masthead it had granted permission for 22,640 citizens and permanent residents to depart Australia from March 25 to July 31, out of 91,950 applications in total...
Prime Minister Scott Morrison warned recently that the resumption of international travel was “not foreseeable” and unlikely to occur this year...

“It puts us on par with North Korea, in terms of, are we now a prison state, that unless you can justify yourself to the department, you cannot leave the country?” Ms Steggall said. “Even in times of war, we don’t have that kind of restriction so it does seem a little extreme.”
Ms Steggall’s electorate office has been “inundated” by constituents needing to travel for important life events such as the birth of a child, the death of a parent, or to take up a job or scholarship...

Some people received an exemption to travel with the official reason cited on the document as “relocating overseas more than 3 months”. However, this masthead knows of at least one case where a woman was denied permission to spend four months in Sweden, where she has citizenship, close family and a summer home...
