Must watch — Doctor shows inefficiency of masks…

I havent posted a thread in a few years now, but I hadnt seen this posted already and it seems like it should be getting attention. My apologies if I missed where it has already been posted. Pretty convincing if you believe your own eyes and trumps any 'science' about masks I have seen to date. Its only a 2:55 video.

No. It’s a simple analogy.

You are doing OK. Masks (that we can make or obtain), properly maintained and properly worn (and not fiddling with it), have some effective-ness, though not perfect.

I anticipate that the masks that I use, afford me a better chance of some protection from the SARS-2 virus (plus some chemical/mineral crystalization - usually the result of human saline, so to speak).

And, I anticipate that the masks that I use, afford me a relatively much better chance of some protection from the SARS-2 virus - when the SARS-2 virus is borne along with moist human exhaust vapor droplets.

Without masks available from my shop inventory, I would probably create my own mask from at least 4 layers of cotton T-shirt material. Use shoe laces for securing. And probably wear a bandana over that, as my "bug screen."

After wearing a mask

If home, I use a wash cloth with some rubbing alcohol and trace the boundary of where the mask was obviously in contact with my face. Because that "joint" is not perfect.

Disinfecting

I have been bathing the shop masks in sunlight. On dark days, I place the masks in a kitchen pot that is wide enough for the masks plus room for a tiny bowel in which I place some Hydrogen Peroxide. Put the lid on the pot and place the assembly in an oven for 1 hour at 160 deg F.

PS. In the following, I write “should,” because not all masks work perfectly.

A mechanical mask should work, because of some combination of its layers consisting of fibers, as a complex physical mesh composition -— all designed to cause intake, or outlet, air, to change directions more than once.

At, or near enough to, the change of direction for air . . . objects and particles “suspended” in the air, fail to make the change of direction, because of their mass/weight, and are caught by the fibers.

Some moisture build-up in a mask, because of a person exhaling moisture, may assist in capturing such fallout (failed to make a turn).

The question is not of distance. The question is of permeability.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

No. The question is do masks curb the infection rate.

But to the question of permeability, it’s obvious the mask is less permeable than no mask as the smoke escapes through the sides. And in all liklihood travels nowhere near the distance it would if there was no mask at all. But the only way to prove that would have been to exhale smoke with no mask.

Which for some reason he doesn’t do. That would have been the standard to judge his experiment by. The greater distance covered by the smoke, the greater the chance of infecting those nearby.

***The Karens then got really fired up when simulation videos showing cloth masks cutting down on the distance of droplets and aerosols travelled during a cough.***

So why can’t we still cough or sneeze into our shoulders, or God forbid, carry a tissue that we throw away? That’s what I would prefer.

Your argument simplifies the complex world. If I am walking the aisles of a supermarket with a mask and leaving a 'trail' of aerosol, it matters not that the person behind me is 6 feet away. If he traverses my exhalation, he is exposed, mask or no mask. So saying it curbs infection rate is circumstantial at best.

The world is full of bacteria and viruses and garbage and microbes. A year ago we traveled the not so sterile world without concern. Why have we become scared of what God has already prepared us for with an immune system to deal with this?

Dont bother to answer. Its either fear or agenda. And the fear can be dealt with on an individual basis using common sense, not national mandates. The agendas have no place in our free society.

LOL, ya gotta get those HTML line break markers in there!

But I got the gist of it and agree. My point was primarily that with vaping (as the gentleman did in his video) the size of the droplets is small and clever people on the other side of this are going to say that, “Of course those are going to go through and around the mask-it is made for larger aerosol droplets!”

I would like to be able to say to them and show them visually “This is what happens with larger aerosol droplets...” and my guess it it will look just the same.

Furthermore, I would like to see someone wearing a mask inhale from an environment populated with those same size droplets with a luminescent or isotopic marker (at varying concentrations, of course) and then have them remove their mask and show (either via a luminescent light or gamma camera) their face, eyes, and respiratory passages.

My bet is that even at low atmospheric concentrations, you would see things light up.

We don’t disagree here, by the way. I am just speculating on the best way to get a way to demonstrate it as irrefutably as possible to hard headed people.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Note that you used the word ‘behind’ you. Reflecting on the video,as you are about to exit the store would you prefer someone 3 feet behind you cough with or without a mask on? The video shows the smoke being prevented from coming straight out and reaching it’s maximum distance. The smoke goes out the sides and I’m sure, similar to a ball bouncing off a wall, travels a much shorter distance AND in a different direction. So the cough would be a danger to those behind, but not to someone in front that has not previously walked in the persons path.

And we are dealing with billions of people and millions of incidental contact of many kinds. So it’s reasonable to minimize the spread where possible.

Hey Palo Pete, what do you think a germ is?

I agree with you. It isn’t tyranny. They’re just trying to offer vulnerable people some protection, any kind of protection. Masks don’t stop the inhalation of aerosols and aerosols are one way the virus is being spread.

However, masks that fit well may prevent you from inhaling an infected person’s spit or mucus that they expel when they cough and they’re crowding you in the grocery store and they aren’t wearing a mask.

It’s just a measure to try to stop some of the virus particles so elderly and those with an underlying health problem that makes them vulnerable aren’t forced to barricade themselves at home and never go out.

It’s the best that can be done at this point until there’s a vaccine. The typical face mask is not PPE. The CDC website says it isn’t.

So please explain why I have to wear a mask if I’m not sick (coughing, sneezing).

When Corona infections started, that was plan A. Your option is to move to a state that doesn't require masks.

My option is to wear a protest mask, one that lets me breathe, but is full of holes. It is crocheted. I only wear it when required. I still cough and sneeze into my shoulder, because it’s a habit I developed years and years ago. I still wash my hands. I know full well that I’m not protecting anybody, and they aren’t protecting me.

I take vitamin supplements including C, D3, zinc, and quercetin on a daily basis. I eat fresh vegetables and cook mostly from scratch with some exceptions, most often breads, though I do make my own sometimes for certain things. I don’t expect anyone in the US to protect me from getting sick. I do that as best as I can myself. Oh, and I work outside nearly every day, except not as often in the winter.

Herman Cain was 75 years old...what was I reading the average age a male lives to lately? 71? Yeah... People get sick and sometimes die.

Doesnt matter, behind, around, in front... It was rude to cough in a persons face long before COVID.

“masks that fit well may prevent you from inhaling an infected person’s spit”

... “MAY well” ... Written in the style of all liberal mask terrorists. MAY. COULD. MIGHT. Nice wiggle words when attempting to manipulate people, but there is NO PROOF.
