I havent posted a thread in a few years now, but I hadnt seen this posted already and it seems like it should be getting attention. My apologies if I missed where it has already been posted. Pretty convincing if you believe your own eyes and trumps any 'science' about masks I have seen to date. Its only a 2:55 video.

whatever natural immune system Herman Cain was blessed with was badly depleted in a battle with colon cancer; cancer, should you survive, has a habit of leaving you not quite yourself...
additionally, he was 75 years of age, and a perfectly healthy person of 75 does not have the immune system he had at 35...persons of that age die every single day, for any number of reasons, none of them having to do with a virus...
you need to ask more intelligent questions...
What is really odd about mask mandates is there isn't consensus on what is really needed. If masks really mattered it seems to me the federal government would invoke the Defense Production Act to produce what ever is best..
You can believe what you like — but this video is drawing wrong conclusions from a silly experiment. Masks are not meant to contain or filter cigarette smoke. However, they can be effective in trapping virii which are attached to droplets in a cough or a sneeze. A better analogy is to take a water sprayer and try to spray it through the mask. As you can expect most of the spray will be contained by the mask. Masks are not 100%, but can reduce the viral load from an infected individual enough to cut down the chance of getting infected by a significant margin.

I make masks from cheesecloth, to wear when I go someplace that requires masking. They don’t filter very much of anything, but I have no reason to believe that I have the Commie Cooties, thus no reason to believe that I’m endangering anyone. As for precautions, I avoid crowds and wash my hands fairly often, and take some D3 when I happen to remember.

You have just reached the crux of the problem, which shows how utterly useless these masks are for protecting people from viruses, and how they are only useful in showing who is compliant.
I think one of the things that bothers me the most about wearing masks is that I (and I’m sure others, too) have become suspicious of others when I’m out. People just aren’t friendly anymore, and I think it’s because we can’t see smiles anymore. This is a (relatively) new phenomenon, and the lockdowns have made everyone want to bust out of this awfulness. Since that seems to be out of our control, then some people want to control everyone around them.
I say, let’s just get on with living. Staying in place was a super bad idea, but I get why we did it for the first 2-3 weeks. After that, we should’ve just gotten back to it. The idea that the whole country needed to shut down because NY state was having a problem was ludicrous. Eventually this virus, like all viruses, will run its course. Will it be 6 months, a year, or longer? The more we lock down, the more extended this period will last.

when the majority of people recorded dying of this virus are in the 75 plus age group with compromised immune systems (as all aging people have to varying degrees), making the statement that without covid they wouldn’t have died is impossible to prove, and something a fool would say...
I also wear a protest mask...I bought a roll of paper towels at the $$$ store...140 sheets per roll....that's 140 disposable protest masks...I wear mine because I can't get into any retail stores etc without one and I wear it below my nose so I can breathe...sometimes, once in the store I unhinge one side...I've noticed others doing the same....no one says a word, people are fed up with mask wearing...I too take vitamins, c, d3, zinc, etc etc AND every morning I drink pineapple juice, it has something called bromelain, it's good for respiratory ailments, it breaks up any mucus...I drink it to prevent said ailments! Here's a video for a paper towel mask, these are just as useless as the cloth ones, but, less expensive, very less expensive!

You may be one of the FReepers that I’ve heard have the cheesecloth mask. If I hadn’t already had my crocheted one, I would’ve used your suggestion. If this one falls apart for whatever reason, then I will try the cheesecloth type.

And I would add that the ‘wrong person’ I mention probably shouldn’t be out exposing themselves. I’m just making a very simple point that some just refuse to understand that in all likelihood there is some deterrent value to a mask. Note that I didn’t say there aren’t liabilities that come with them also that need to be weighed. Just unfortunate that there are so many devils advocates out there so one has to cover every base to make the simplest of points.

I’m fully aware of why Herman Cain was vulnerable. It was why I made the point I did that you would have been aware of, because you are so intelligent, if you read what I previously wrote.
