I think masks are silly and I think this video is a good demonstration.
My question — will surgeons stop wearing masks in the OR? And if not why not?

It’s part of their costume. Get with the program!
I can see it in the OR for the purpose of reducing drool, snot, spit, and sweat falling onto the patient, but for aerosol prevention, it clearly is a fail.
Nope, and I’m not sure why not. This was mentioned in an article I read 2 or 3 weeks ago.
It was proven a few years ago the masks worn in OR to prevent germs do not work. Germs are much larger than viruses or bacteria. But surgeons will not give up their masks, my guess is pure habit.
Because its not all about tiny droplets. Blood and guts can squirt out from the patient you know. Of course this has been explained many times on this forum but the mask brigade will never give up.
Surgeons masks are designed to prevent bacterial spread, not viral. Huge difference in size. Not only that, but a surgeons mask is put on, used, and discarded in an environment specifically designed for such use. It is not designed for use outside that environment. They dont touch the mask once its in position. They discard it in biohazard bins once its been used, not in a pocket, the dashboard, or hanging from a rear-view mirror.
