I live in a suburb of Houston. The police here already knows that there is a citizen militia that will back them up.
Takes the police 20 minutes minimum to get where I live. Ambulance 40 minutes since that's part of the volunteer FD.
Meanwhile I feel safer here than I would in a city or metro area. This place isn't too much different than the old West. Everyone's armed and most people have a barn bigger than the county jail. We have our methheads but everyone knows who they are and they pretty much don't bother anyone. They collect their disability and smoke it up. There have been cases where every once in a while, someone gets shot dead but it's usually someone that everyone hated because they were just a mean bastard and one person just finally had enough. No real investigation in those cases.
