I remember one trial in Dallas a few years ago. A guy beat up his girlfriend (or wife) and her mother. He ended up with a 5 year prison sentence - for throwing the cat off the second floor balcony during his rampage. The death penalty for the cop killer in Richardson earlier this year happened because the apartment was in the sliver of Richardson that was in Collin County, and he got tried there instead of Dallas County.
