The Italian Coast Guard responded to a distress call Saturday from a rescue boat funded by the British street artist Banksy, which requested assistance after taking 219 migrants onboard in the Mediterranean.
"The Italian Coastguard have evacuated 49 of our most vulnerable guests," a post on the vessel's Twitter account said Saturday evening. The tweet said that Italian authorities also took the body of a person who had died prior to being rescued by the boat's crew on Friday.
The "Louise Michel," a former French naval boat, helped to rescue 89 people on Thursday, according to a spokesperson for the vessel.
Its 10-person crew later provided help to a further 130 people, including "many women and children," a post on the boat's Twitter account said on Friday evening.
The pink vessel, named after a French anarchist and bought by Banksy from the proceeds of one of his artworks...
As well as being customized for search and rescue operations, the Louise Michel is "captained and crewed by a team of rescue professionals drawn from across Europe," the boat's website added.
It is 30 meters (about 98 feet) in length and can travel at a speed of 28 knots per hour.

Looks to me like this Bansky character is involved in human smuggling. It should be a crime — if it isnt already a crime.

Exactly, my first thought.
Flood lower/middle class neighborhoods with people who don't speak the local language and will be a financial burden on the local taxpayers but never to this Banksy person.
The “guests” need to be taken to the county in which the vessel is flagged.
They need to be returned to their point of departure, imo.
But did the Italian Navy save the ‘ludes?
I have great respect for Banksy as an artist. Having used his preferred medium (-ahem-), I know how difficult it is not only to work with in even the most ideal conditions, but avoiding detection at the same time.
As a person... Not so much respect.
Liberals are abusing maritime rescue laws to violate immigration laws. The “immigrants” get in a boat, go a short distance off-shore, and radio for “help”. Liberals show up and tow them to Europe in the name of saving their lives.
I was hoping they sank it with naval gunfire.
Italy has a navy, I believe.
Wonder why they don’t use it?

The FRENCH NAVY is escorting migrant boats across the Channel until they reach British waters and then they’re handed off to the British Navy. There’s a of politics involved (obviously) but my personal opinion is punishment for Brexit. Nigel Farage has caught the boats out in the Channel and posted the videos on YouTube. The EU leftists keep saying they’re poor women and children, but all the photos/videos show young able-bodied men.
Banksy is actually picking up these migrants off Libya’s coast and the EU countries refused to take them until this ‘emergency call’ went out.
