I wonder why Gardnerville and not Reno?

I doubt that air field has 200 parking spaces and there’s probably not 5,000 people that live within a 20 mile radius.

The population in a 20 mile radius won’t matter, trust me. I drove over 200 miles one way to go to a hangar rally in 2016.

You loose the bet. Adjacent Carson City has about 58K population without including the outlying suburbs and rural areas. Carson City is also the state capital.

Reno and Sparks are about 40-50 miles away and combine to about 361K population. All this is without considering the Lake Tahoe area and as far as Truckee on the CA side.
