I wish these public officials could be sued personally for loss of revenue and wages.

I suspect it has more to do with public perception and the politicians needs to be seen as ‘doing something’. A very large percentage of the population believes that lockdowns, masks, etc., are the only thing between themselves and the virus. Consequently, they want their politicians to impose those draconian measures. In order to be seen as doing ‘something’ politicians mandate lockdowns, masks, social distancing, etc., whether scientific evidence to support those policies exists or not.
To me, this is criminal because it's being used to restrict freedoms and kill businesses.

Trump won Tennessee 65% to 35% in 2016 and he should do as well or BETTER this election.
The other problem is that they have managed to scare the bejeepers out of many people who are now afraid to go out to a restaurant.
