There was a consensus that John Kerry won his 1st debate against Bush because he came out with a lot of fire, and the challenger has to show fire.... A lot of people here criticizing Trump for showing too much fire, I disagree....Biden was the one that had to prove himself, and he looked, moved, and sounded like he’s 20 years older than Trump, and is only running because, for some strange reason, he won the nomination, so he feels obligated to go through the motions.....he had no fire at all....made Bob Dole look like Trump by comparison.....Trump looked young, energetic and animated.... That’s a lot more important than whether or not he seized every opportunity or interrupted too much

Today I learned that the never-Trumpers temporarily given a pause during 2016 have not only returned but continued to embrace their spite and vitriol here. By the by, guys, we’ve long since grown immune to the concern trolling.
Wallace was worse than expected — I anticipated Dem advocacy but not shouting at our President.
Joe filled the bingo card with the twitches, the aggressive insulting behavior, the pat phrases repeating every possible lie, the loss of thought mid-speech, and the so-obvious remote coaching.
This was a nasty debate even by liberal’s own standards.
The only thing that Biden did not do was use the F word at Trump.
Trump did well and held his ground against the mountain of lies thrown by both Wallace and Biden.

1) bad debate format, Wallace did bad job moderating, was obviously biased towards Biden.
2) Biden did better than I expected but did have help from Wallace
3) Trump did as I expected.
How will it play out across the country? I don’t know but best guess most people found it tiring and uninformative...learned nothing new tonight about either candidate.
Here is an answer to the debate format concern:
Format: The first presidential debate will be divided into six 15-minute segments during which the moderators will pose their own questions to the candidates. Candidates will have two minutes to respond to each question and they’ll also have a chance to respond to one another. The topics include: COVID-19, race and protests (and the violence that has come from some of them), the Supreme Court, the economy, the records of Trump and Biden and the integrity of the election.

so the format nominally appears to be the standard debate format point, counterpoint, rebut, rebut.
however, that’s not what i seem to recall. what i recall is wallace going free range, asking each participant different questions, interrupting, and giving his own hostile followup questions to one debater (trump).
thus the debate turned into two timesliced interviews with wallace asking leading followup questions of trump but not biden.
what am i missing??
the format quickly became a free for all and several times wallace lost control for which imho he had himself to blame.
