I love the Lafayette and Breaux Bridge area. Good folks there. But they won’t look kindly on this “demonstration.”

No such thing. It’s a NEGLIGENT discharge. This can only happen when the gun-handler knowingly violates a series of safety requirements...

Although you're likely correct that the "discharge" in question was due to negligence, there is such a thing as an accidental discharge, when the firearm itself is at fault (due to design or manufacturing flaw, etc.).

Years ago, I owned a chicom SKS: on one occassion, it fired when the safety was moved from 'safe' to 'fire', without my finger touching the trigger (fortunately, I was following the safety rules & had the firearm pointed down range). That experience was an "accidental discharge" due to a manufacturing defect, rather than a "negligent discharge" due to human error...
