You can not have a thought experiment with those who do not think.

As to Joe Biden, in and of himself? There is no sound reason on earth to vote for him.

No, there is not. AndI think most liberals would agree.

They are not voting for Joe--they are voting against Donald.

You cannot reason people out of a position that they did not reason themselves into.

I stopped talking politics with friends many, many years ago.

Its not worth it. They are not educating themselves. It is difficult to ask relevant questions without having them get defensive and hateful.

Who needs that?

Wouldn’t a thought experiment require them to think...?

Does. Not. Matter.

Their TV has told them that orange man bad, and that they’ll FEEL better with a president Biden.

That’s all they need.

There is one thing I don’t understand.

Try the Columbo technique. It can provide great entertainment.

This is only of value if you have a strong reason to think the person is capable of thinking. They probably are not, since they are liberal. Most of them are NPC’s. Only spend time on the ones who might have the ability to think.

I actually tried this on one friend, and she decided, after some hemming and hawing, that his stance on abortion was the deciding factor for her.

Honestly, after they had gone a couple of rounds with me in the past, they are suspect of any “baiting.”

Once in a while, when things haven’t been well with my wife, my daughter will engage—just to give me something to do. Then we both laugh.

I am fine with that. There is enough anger in the world. I live in MA, so I am not changing any minds.

In the end, I would rather laugh. And come November that will be a lot easier.

“You can not have a thought experiment with those who do not think.”

You cannot have a civil conversation with a liberal about politics, especially the otherwise intelligent ones. They know their opinions defy common sense, so they immediately get defensive and agitated. I’ve seen this in my brother. It’s like the logical side of their brain gets into conflict with the emotional side.

> ask them why they support Joe Biden and to do so without making reference in any way to Donald Trump <

I don’t know if this is such a good argument. Back in 2012 I voted for Mitt Romney. If you asked me to defend my vote without mentioning Obama I couldn’t do it. No way could I do it. Yet I think my choice was perfectly fine.

Leftard loons hate reason and reality and choose not to think. They are emotionalists and social metaphysicians and trying to talk rationally to them is a waste of time and effort.

What few liberal friends I have it's been made clear politics are not on the table for discussion. We'd just be talking past each other and thinking each other is an idiot.

On another note, I have noticed in the past few years that when I meet new people they try very quickly in subtle ways to find out where I am politically.

Washington D.C. has infused its rotten self into everything - friendships, sports, school, even my spin class (when it was allowed to be open, that is).

“Its not worth it. They are not educating themselves. It is difficult to ask relevant questions without having them get defensive and hateful.”

Fifty plus years of leftist indoctrination in the public education system, and the destruction of religion, has achieved its objective. People have no commonly held values. People are not able to reason critically. They have been taught to emotionally respond to soundbites.

Not having been taught to appreciate the blessing of western civilization, half the people in this country have no concept of tyranny. The televised isolated arrest of a violent criminal hyped up on drugs is considered to be the height of indecency, by people who have no knowledge or concept of a leftist authoritarian state oppressing the masses in every facet of life. Absorbed with their cell phones, video games, and Starbucks latte’s (the bounty of a free capitalist society) they have no idea under the utopian socialist regime they cherish, they will be equal in their suffering.

To understand tyranny, a society must experience it or be informed. Our society is uninformed and has not experience real tyranny since the 1860’s. Therefore, it appears almost certain those enjoying the fruits of freedom will accept chains in exchange for symbolism and empty promises.

They have "their facts", backed up by the MSM, and won't listen to what they consider "your facts" - so there really isn't much basis for discussion.

But a non-political relative recently saw a profile on Melania Trump and was amazed at all the good things she had been doing, asking me: "Why haven't I ever heard about this before?"

Why, indeed...

...........................................

The very reason that I didn’t vote for the top of the ticket that election. The lesser of two evils is still evil. I learned that lesson by voting for McCain and said, never again.
