The CDC gets it’s wires crossed far to often to rely on anything they say. They supposedly were on top of the ladder but have proven otherwise..often.

Embrace herd immunity. Because that is how this story ends, like it or not

The problem with the "natural" approach to herd immunity is that it requires 90% of the population to be infected for herd immunity to kick in. 90% of the US population multiplied by the current hospitalization rate of 0.1517% gives us 450,549 COVID patients requiring hospitalizations. The US currently has 85,247 ICU beds. Meanwhile people are not going to stop having heart attacks and other problems requiring hospitalization. There is also the problem of people who survive COVID developing life-threatening blood clots and permanent lung damage. That's why this healthy 30 year old is opting out of the herd immunity experiment currently being pushed on us by an increasingly desperate business community. I don't hire a plumber to fix my computer and I don't let businessmen make my health care decisions for me.

The good news is there is a way to build herd immunity without overloading our ICUs or serious risk of long term health problems. Namely vaccination. I'm sure President Trump has the best people working on a vaccine as we type. I'll admit I'm not crazy about taking a new vaccine, but right now it would seem to be our best shot (no pun intended) at saving lives in a way that doesn't shut down the economy.

My understanding is electrostatic attraction is the main way masks trap particles. That’s why they’re able to trap particles that are much smaller than the spaces in their fiber weave. They don’t rely on a mechanical grating effect, at least not for smaller particles.

so....masks ARE USELESS!

Masks are how we slow the spread of the virus to a manageable level, thus preventing further shutdowns of businesses.

Possibly. Not entirely. Substantially, but not exclusively. Largely but only in part.

Dr. Fauci, is that you??

Those are bacterial cultures. They have nothing to do with this virus.

So I suppose you are making the argument that we should all be required to wear masks FOREVER?

If that’s your opinion you should come right out and say it. Not hide behind a cute graphic that is making precisely that argument.

That presupposes that they all get sick and go to the hospital at the exact same time.. Our experience has shown that we can manage the case load and prevent that from occurring. Even in New York at the height of the pandemic.

Also, hospitals don't keep huge numbers of ICU beds open because it makes no economic sense to do so. But they are capable of ramping-up and greatly expanding that capacity on short notice. Especially with the umpety-ump thousand ventilators Trump keeps telling us he's produced.

My daughter is an ICU nurse so I know something about this. The biggest impediment to a ramp-up is frankly a shortage of people with her skills.

As a retired R.N., I can honestly say that I have very little confidence in the CDC. At one time, I’m sure they were reputable, but since they are chock full of bureaucrats who keep their jobs while doing as little as they can (a bureaucratic standard, unfortunately), and seem always to lean so far left as to be practically horizontal, I do not trust them. If I were more scientific, I would dig and delve, and give specifics, but I’m not that energetic. GlaSer., you will probably jump me for my opinion, but I’m a sceptic, and I wish there were a scientific community, such as good doctors like yourself, upon whom we could rely to be impartial and apolitical.

I’m continually amazed by the number of aerosol science, air filtration, and epidemiology experts there are on Free Republic.

Medical staff, of which I once was a part, have safely and successfully worn masks to keep from catching respiratory diseases from isolation patients, for over 100 years. In the 90’s, we were introduced to N95 type masks, after one of our hospital nurses contracted TB from an undiagnosed patient. (If I recall, she hadn’t worn any mask, due to the patient was not in isolation and his TB had not yet been diagnosed). That is the only case of which I am aware of staff contracting any disease from a patient. Of course, we wore a fresh mask every time we entered the isolation rooms, (regular OR TB), and that is key. Except for TB, we wore the familiar blue, regular paper masks. Masks such as these were once very cheap; now, of course, they are unaffordable for us civilians to use a new one every time we go into a different shop, etc. Even at my doctor’s office, I wonder how often the staff is told to change their masks. If I could get a hold of the exact paper from which they are made, I’d gladly make enough to use one and done. Anyone have any idea from paper they are made?

Just found this site, that says masks normally worn by medical professionals are polypropylene.

Air is comprised of gas molecules mixed together in a specific ratio.

So what the hell is a “tiny air particle”❓

WSJ is just a hack like all the other msm. This headline is misleading. Read the actual report... The odds of it transmitting via air is minimal and then mostly only in poorly ventilated spaces. The report said most occurs from close contact.

I’ve said from the beginning it’s a virus; it’s gonna run its course. You either try to deal with the deaths or incur more by shutting everybody inside & lying to people about masks.

Masks aren’t a medicine, they don’t modulate how bad your illness will be, they help prevent you from catching it in the first place.
