They differentiate between OFFICIAL infallible pronouncement on matters of church doctrine (ex-cathedra) and personal pronouncements, which are meant to be pastoral guidelines.
The former is supposed to be protected by the Holy Spirit from error and therefore, infallible. The latter is fallible and could possibly be erroneous.
Do you honestly believe that the Pope would say one thing personally and another thing from the “chair”? To do so would be ludicrous. In the 60’s droves left the church over the matter of what language should be spoken during mass . . . this is a tide bit more serious. Did any of you believe that one day you would hear the leader of your church make such a statement that sodomites are regular people, like you all?
