U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- La Crosse County, Wisconsin may have engineered a new event, the cheap ammunition event. Ammunition has often been accepted at gun turn-in events, though it is not paid for. Some excellent deals have been found for ammunition at these events.
The event will be held at 3202 Berlin Drive, La Crosse. It appears to be the local landfill, from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, the 24th of October.
The La Crosse event is specifically organized to collect unwanted ammunition. The county states it often receives requests to dispose of unwanted ammunition. Someone in La Crosse County organized this event to collect unwanted ammunition. They promised all ammunition collected would be incinerated!
Private parties can do much better, of course. They can promise the ammunition will be disposed of properly, which gives much greater and more frugal options. From lacrossecounty.org:
Residential ammunition disposal is a service frequently requested by our customers. We are happy to announce that the La Crosse County Hazardous Materials Facility will be hosting its first ammunition drop-off event on Saturday, October 24th from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a great opportunity for La Crosse County residents to dispose of unwanted or unneeded ammunition in a safe and responsible manner. All collected ammunition will be shipped to a licensed hazardous waste facility where it will be incinerated.
WXOW gives a bit more information. People who dispose of ammunition at the disposal site (near a landfill) must remain in their vehicles. Any ammunition greater than five pounds (Two boxes of 12 gauge or 650 rounds of .22 LR)

Over five pounds, the ignorant people getting rid of it have to pay the county.
It should not be too hard to convince them to take a little money for their ammunition!
No steel jackets!
Will they take spent-uranium rounds?
Asking for a friend.
If I lived near La Crosse, Id be making up a $$CASH MONEY$$ FOR AMMO sign and figuring out a good place to set up.
I wouldnt feel comfortable picking up ammo this way. Too risky. Ammo might have corrosive primers, could be squib loads or could be tampered with.
I have brought a lot pre-owned ammo.
Never had a problem.
If in doubt with hand loads I just break them down for components.
Corrosive primers so what just remember to clean your firearm. I have shot thousands of rounds of them.
I am glad others are afraid leaves more for me.
Probably not.
But I will.
For a friend, of course.
Some Interesting stuff
Could show up,
Little ol’ Ladies scuttling
Old boxes of,,,
As have I.
The only problem I've had is with cleanup, with most of the lead/lead alloy projectiles reacting with the brass casing over a period of time.
But I can pull the projectile, dump the propellant and sell the brass for junk, once I've inspected and rejected.
I have never lost money on my purchases and the majority of what I've picked up is very usable and pretty good shape.
I live close to the route for the "World's Longest Yard Sale" and "Antique Alley", you would not believe the amounts of pre-owned ammo of all type and caliber available at those events.
Although a lot of these folks are overly proud of what they have, once you point out the problems with what they have, they realize it ain't going to be the hot commodity that they thought and they'll come down a heck of a lot.
But, alas, every thing I purchased was tragically lost in a boating accident, just the other day, in fact.
That’s how I am with steel cases.
Everyone on these threads are afraid of steel cases ammunition. Good for me. Shot over 100k lifetime, never had a problem.
Cased
No telling what would show up.
If I were taking ammunition off of their hands, I would ask, very politely, if they had any thing else, such as guns, or reloading supplies they needed help in disposing of.
