2020 breaks annual gun sale records, October sees 60 percent jump from 2019

This year has broken annual gun sale records for the past seven months, according to gun data analysis released on Monday.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) released its analysis from FBI data on Monday, showing that October broke the record for the most gun purchases of any previous October included in the examination.

NSSF reports that more than 1.7 million background checks were conducted for the sale of a firearm last month, an increase of 60.1 percent compared to last October's more than 1.1 million.

The group determined that every month in 2020 since March has “been the strongest of that month ever recorded.”

This year’s statistics on background checks for the sale of a firearm has already surpassed the previous annual record set in 2016. In 2020 so far, 17.2 million background checks for firearm sales have been completed, compared to 2016’s 15.7 million and 2019’s almost 13.2 million.

It will be a very long time before ammo will be cheap again.
Or maybe this will inspire the manufacturers to take a risk and expand capacity.

It’s wearing me out.
Tomorrow will probably be another 200 gun day for our store.

If you don’t already have it, it’s way too late.

Some already have, but it’s not enough.
Demand is higher than I have ever seen.

Doesn’t mean anything without the will to use it.

Just my observation: that diminished supply hasn't resulted in price gouging on guns. On ammo - yes, but gun prices seem to be at their pre-scamdemic levels. Gouging *is* happening on gunbroker.com (the only source for defensive pump-action shotguns). Pump shotguns were at $300 - $450 and now running $500 - $600.

This is what I've seen shopping online and brick & mortar stores like Cabel'as and Academy.

Was in Academy Sports today, same sad ammo situation. Oddball calibers and a bunch of shotgun birdshot only.

Sold out of any defense-style shotgun or autoloading rifle, just the bolt action sort of inventory. People want the AR15/AK47 stuff.

Smattering of pistols left in the showcase and people were lined up to buy them.

And the toilet paper is disappearing in the stores again - didn’t check on the ramen noodle or frozen pizza inventory.

We have not raised our prices for anything, but we’re out of lots of stuff, cleaning supplies, holsters, magazines, etc.
Every time we get ARs or shotguns in they are gone same day.

Firearm and ammo prices have certainly increased. Luckily in the city I live near the sporting good store is well stocked with both. They have a good supply of just about every caliber you would want. I just spent $600.00 on shotgun, .223, .40, .357, 7mm magnum, .380 rounds.
The cute young gal that rang up my order (we know each other) asked if I was going to do some shooting this weekend or just continue to stockpile.

Lol, no, not quite. She is a cutie though, avid shooter and hunter. This gal can walk all day pushing through tall grass, brush, cattails to hunt. Her legs and butt attest to that.
