FOX News is a vanity project for the Murdochs. It’s not where their big money comes from.
But the this is that the left needs a bogeyman and for 10 years it's been Fox News. Obama attacked it all the time back when the press thought it was great for a President to criticise a media outlet. It served as a substitute for criticizing conservative voters, intead he could use Fox as a whipping boy proxy. It's useful for them to set up straw man arguments by making something bad up and adding 'like they say over on Fox News!'
They are not going to give that up even if Fox hired Bill Ayers to be their news director and made Rachel Maddow their main anchor.
I try not to be conspiratorial, but it seems to me that the DC deep-state allows FOX to exist as a token figurehead or totem for the permanent minority opposition. After all, you can’t make the suppression of dissent completely overwhelming or it becomes too obvious.
But when it came to the election, FOX was told to tow the line and push the constructed, or there would be high costs.
