Prepare for the Great Decoupling – Deplatforming moves downstream to WordPress.com and Mailchimp

In the past day there have been two very disturbing developments in internet deplatforming.

We are all familiar with deplatforming from major social media services such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as those platforms outright silencing important news that harms Democrats, like the Biden family influence peddling scandal. Twitter regularly now places notices or restrictions even on Trump’s tweet on the allegation that his opinions on the election are disputed. In the four years Trump as been the subject of dishonest and malicious conspiracy claims, particularly Russia collusion, I can’t remember Twitter ever placing such restrictions on the tweets from Adam Schiff, other Democrat politicians, or mainstream media outlets peddling that disinformation.

The two recent developments take it to a new level.

First, The Conservative Treehouse website says it received notification from WordPress.com that “… given the incompatibility between your site’s content and our terms, you need to find a new hosting provider and must migrate the site by Wednesday, December 2nd.”

One reason Trump won in 2016 and again in 2020 was that the Dems and their pollsters believed the BS regurgitations in their MSM, Twatter, and Fakebook echo-chambers. Let them have them.

Self-platforming ones self is being very self-sufficient.

That is a VERY American personal/organizational trait, now DUmped upon by the Left along with DUmping on the rest of Western Civ.

Running a server (DNS, HTTPS etc) is forbidden with most personal internet services.

Yeah, I can throw up a Self-hosted site easy. Limitations on bandwidth is the issue.

Even hosting services like GoDaddy and others get very expensive with any real traffic. One client had me host a MySQL DB for a game, as well as the game website for a mobile game. Thousands per month.

One word. Expensive. And no Freepathons every quarter to pay for hosting.

Deplatforming is the 21st century equivalent of Christiane Amanpours Book Burning. The fascists of 1938 returned to 2020 and found no books. Instead to get information everyone’s reading their phones on the internet. They Needed to control and restrict the information flow. This is how they found to do it.

Apparently many knowitall FReepers are fine with deplatforming sites they consider unworthy, which they slam as “clickbait” sites. They arrive like ants at a picnic any time anything is posted from one of those sites to denigrate the author, the content, and anyone who doesn’t agree with them.

This is 21st century bookburning.

No, it's NOT what "happened to Free Republic." Free Republic has its own servers paid for by members (remember FReepathons? You do donate, right?)

Lots of blogs ride on "free" (i.e., not free) platforms like WordPress and some of those get posted as clickbait here on our dime (as I point out on rare occasions, sometimes with a like to our donation page).

My advise to those blogs is to get your own platform, and then donate to FR when posting your material here (but not in clickbait form).

I get 2TB for $10 a month. With 100k per text comment, that's 20 million comments a month. Hosting low quality images means 2 million a month. High quality images would be a few hundred thousand per month. Video? Forget about it. So it really boils down to what content you are serving up. FR is easy, no images, no video, no problem.

One client had me host a MySQL DB for a game, as well as the game website for a mobile game. Thousands per month.

I have large databases on my $10 / month server. The storage is plentiful. The game depends on what you are serving. If the game has an app to do the rendering, then ten buks a month is adequate. If you are rendering and sending video then obviously not.

One more thing, the bandwidth needed for FR is trivial. Unfortunatelty the bandwidth use up by FR's attackers is very much nontrivial. DDOS from a botnet would detinitely swamp any virtual network on a virtual server. So we must use bare metal and our own 100 GB ethernet. Even then a concerted DDOS from a large botnet would swamp any providers network. So we have to keep that in mind when choosing a provider.

Well, I’m a software developer who’s always on the lookout for a business idea.

“Conservative-friendly Platform for X” narrows it down. Gotta figure out the X.

If conservatives establish their own alternate services for these lefty-run companies that are kicking us off, one thing to keep in mind is the liberals may move down a level to pressuring hosting or platform providers (AWS, etc.), what to do about that?

My first suggestion is never ever use AWS. Of course I have violated that rule since their S3 storage is free and hard to pass up. The issue is whether vultr would kick them off. Seems unlikely. Vultr or Linode or Digitial Ocean or others might if there was a DDOS attack that affected their other customers. But otherwise I don't think they would.
