Rudy, even if irritated about something, could have handled this better. He stated: “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”
He could have stated: Sidney Powell is not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. Instead, she is acting on behalf of herself and others practicing law as a lawyer admitted to the Federal Bar.
Says much the same thing without the slight and drama.

Maybe they put her out there as a “Look! Squirrel!” distraction for the press while Sekulow, et al., are doing the serious stuff behind the scenes.
Sidney has stated all along that she is working separate from the Trump team. She has her own funding stream and who she is representing is the people of America. She’s a friendly force or Trump would not be retweeting her. But, she is and has always been a free agent with a different line of focus. What she is going to expose will likely take down people from BOTH parties. This would not make Trump popular if he was paying her to do it. Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team (led by Rudy and Jenna) is dealing with finer matters of the law in each state. They are on the same team in terms as they are all working for free and fair elections and are pro-POTUS. But, they are not officially working on the same team.
No, we haven’t been had. You just listened to the media’s characterization of Sidney’s role, not her actual words.

“I heard Sydney say so herself. She is not paid by the campaign. She is depending upon a separate org fund for her expenses. Relax. No conspiracy here.”
Which makes sense since she has been asking for her own donations (I donated some) to carry on her line of work.
