I believe this has always been the case. This is simply a clarification. Even Sidney has started this fact. That is why she asks for support and donations at defendingtherepublic.org.

Perhaps they’re just clarifying her independence, given her appearance at the press conference probably gave a lot of people the idea she was working for the Trump campaign directly.
Maybe Trump is thinking of appointing her as a special prosecutor to take a deeper dive into Dominion? It sounds like a case that will take a lot longer to build than what Rudy and Ellis are pursuing.
