Russia is an ally of China, as well as other hostile nations like Venezuela and Cuba. Putin and the Russian government have done an effective job in fooling many conservatives and libertarians that it is now a Orthodox Christian nation because the leaders are seen at liturgy on occasion and the current government maintains Soviet era restrictions on sexual perversion. The revival of Tsarist era flags and symbols gives the impression that the current regime is nationalist.

Russian military alliance with China and other anti American powers is indicative of Putin's real intentions. It is possible that the Russians did perform the cyberattack.
