Warp Speed vaccines? You go first.

Reviewing the history of pandemics, including the three Black Plagues of Africa (541 A.D.), Asia/Crimea (1347), and China (1894), we find that neither ancient nor modern medicine has produced a "cure" for Yersinia pestis.

From 1918 to 1920, the "Spanish Flu," a distant cousin of COVID-19, "jumped species" (bird to human) and killed 50 million worldwide, including approximately 675,000 in the USA. Again, no cure was ever found — just resilient human genes.

An enlightening 1998 PBS documentary (Influenza 1918) contained conclusions from health care professionals regarding the effectiveness of face masks. Here's a segment from the 20-page original transcript.

Narrator:

In many places, officials rushed through laws requiring people to wear masks in public. All of America, it seemed, put on masks. At last, many thought, they were safe. But masks didn't help. They were thin and porous — no serious restraint to tiny microbes. It was like trying to keep out dust with chicken wire.

In Washington, D.C., Commissioner Louis Brownlow banned all public gatherings. He closed the city's schools, theaters and bars. He quarantined the sick. He did everything he had the power to do. But the death rate in Washington kept rising[.]

If masks didn't work in 1918, why are we led to believe they'll work in 2020? I know, stupid question...Dr. Fauci wasn't alive in 1918.

In 1977, a historic failure known as The National Swine Flu Immunization Program was born. This government-approved mass inoculation effort was considered a fail-safe solution. Experts guaranteed, as with most epic programs, that this would stop the bad piggy known as Swine Flu, the nasty second cousin to COVID-19.

With absolute certainty, leaders predicted that initial outbreaks of this pig-to-human virus would grow into an inevitable, deadly pandemic monster...

From the CDC website: Plague is a very serious illness, but is treatable with commonly available antibiotics.

I remember taking the polio sugar cube. Pretty sure that it wasn’t mandatory.

Famotidine (egs. Pepcid), or Hydroxychloroquine, or Ivermectin . . . plus Emergen-C, Zinc, vitamins C, D, and sleep.

I chose Famotidine, because it is easy to get at Walmart.

All my life I’ve heard from doctors “you can’t treat a virus”. Now, all of a sudden, you can? It’s magic, eh?

all for the cause, control. You can see how fear was used to force mask wearing and believe it will protect you

TV commercial for drug XYZ:

People out riding bikes, buying bouquets at the flower shop, fresh fruit at the market, flying kites, having beach bonfires, etc.

TV commercial for drug XYZ 1 year later:

“Have you or a loved one taken drug XYZ - you may be entitled to compensation.”

I used to be one of the “there has never been a successful vaccine for a corona-virus” crowd.

Then a freeper explained how vaccines had been in the process of being developed (SARS, etc.) but the wave of sick was over before the complete vaccine had been developed. BUT, lots of work had been done.

This time (SARS-COV-2), with Trump speeding things up, and the companies using the results from the earlier developing vaccines, were able to get a complete vaccine.

Yes, Covid-19 is being used as an excuse to control us. But it is still a very serious issue, and the vaccine hopefully will be a real help in having it run it’s course more quickly.

All that said, I’m not at a huge risk so I’ll be waiting to see what effects this vaccine might have.

I’m still not sure what the BS is about “even after getting the vaccine you have to isolate yourself and wear a mask.”

There have been vaccines against viruses for years—- this is not a new concept. The best treatment we have for viral infections is to prevent getting them through vaccination

While difficult to treat and not many treatments exist we do have treatments for some viruses especially herpes or CMV in the form of gancyclovir and related medications. There are some sort of effective drugs for influenza that may shorten the course but not “cure” it. There are treatments but not cures for HIV and very recently there is a treatment and potential cure for hepatitis c. Not a very long list compared to the bacterial infections we can treat and cure but progress is being made.

Yes. Unfortunately all drugs have side effects and there is no good cure for lawyers

My biggest concern is that China has thousands of other deadly viruses in their freezers at Wuhan. OTOH, did you notice, there is no flu epidemic this year.
