Art Spiegelman also used those cartoon images, but not the way the NY Times did. See my #40.
I mean WaPo.
..................
Not sure that it's antisemitic. Just a cartoonist and publisher who admire the style of Nazi propaganda.
It’s not. It’s anti-Republican or conservative or Trump voter, and is meant to dehumanize them just like the Nazis did to the Jews. Naturally, this desire results in similar imagery.
You’re not sure Art Spiegelman’s Maus is anti-Semitic?! Of course not. It tells the story of Art’s father and mother during the Holocaust. Jews are depicted as mice, Germans as cats, Poles as pigs, Frenchmen as frogs, and the Swiss as reindeer, I think. But the idea for Jews as mice was probably inspired by Nazi propaganda cartoons.
Perhaps. I just don't see any Jewish context there. In my mind the similarity in style to Nazi propaganda might be just as distasteful when used against other targets, in this case Republicans, as when targeting Jews I don't think that makes it antisemitic. At least from the perspective of the artist who doesn't seem to have a background of anti Israel or antisemitic work. From the perspective of the editors, you may have a point. I recall once seeing a very nice beaded belt at a western market, beaded, but with swastikas prominent in the pattern. Being aware of the use of the swastika in native, particularly Navajo, culture I didn't consider it antisemitic. But I didn't buy it because given the impression someone seeing me might have, it would have been inappropriate. And possibly antisemitic to a viewer who didn't know me. That's the position the WP is in. The belt was a bit expensive as well, but were it not for the swastikas I'd have splurged.
Should have added I’m not surprised the WP printed it. The possibility of it being perceived antisemitic wouldn’t deter them.
Karma is an amazing, unmistakable, instant, bitch. The Democrats are literally crawling over each other like rats in a cage to protest each other getting the vaccine first. AOC looks like a rat, and Omar is a rat.
Please FRmail me to be added to or removed from my irregular ping list.

In before the WaPo issues the PR generated lameass apology. Something along the lines of “an inappropriate cartoon appeared in our paper. This cartoonist has been relieved pending a thorough investigation. We at the WaPo strive to maintain a welcoming environment that respects and accepts ALL viewpoints and people from ALL walks of life. (My personal favorite line of BS), THIS ISN’T WHO WE ARE!” This 💩’s really getting old.
Don’t hold back!
Tell us how you really feel!
I think it is an opportunity to do a parody cartoon depicting Republicans as Nazi-era stereotypical Jews.
Maybe Ann should check the weather forecast.
Maybe Ann should read it prior to her skydiving lesson.
The Argentine Junta used to have similar classes.
Bump that!
