Over the (3 day) weekend, from 9 AM on Friday (8 Jan), to 9AM Monday (11 Jan):

About 3.35 million more doses were delivered from the factories (a bit over a million per day).

About 2.3 million more people got their first dose (averaging about 750,000 per day).

About 180,000 more doses were delivered for Nursing Home use (their inventory on hand might already be reaching their total requirement).

About 244,000 more Nursing Home folks got their first shot (about 80,000 per day).

So we averaged about 3/4 million first shots per day overall over the weekend (a 50% jump from last week's rate), and also sped up administering vaccine in Nursing Homes significantly.

There are about 1.3 million residents in US Nursing Homes, so roughly 2 million with staff. Looks like we pass the first million having a first shot, by close of business today. Seems to be on track to get the Nursing Home first shots done in about 2 weeks at this rate, but it might (should) speed up more.

We sped up a good bit, just over the last few days, but are still not yet up to planned peak speed, and overall are behind the planned schedule (but are now ramping up nicely).

About 3% of the population has received a first dose. The first folks to get the vaccines have started getting their second shots. It was slow at first, so those relatively fewer early recipient folks need a much smaller percentage of the daily capacity for second doses, than is being used for first doses. After a few weeks at peak speed though, it should level off to around half of daily capacity going for first doses, and half going for second doses.

Coordinating the second dose will be a train wreck in blue areas. It’s supposed to be given 30 days after the first dose. They don’t understand logistics.

“Coordinating the second dose will be a train wreck in blue areas.”

Even if they screw up second shots, the just first shot alone is more effective than several other types of vaccine that are used for other diseases (~80%).

The Brits are already purposely delaying second shots (to 12 weeks) for many people, to get first shots into more people sooner.

There will be different “Pull” and Push” factors, influencing the local rates in different areas.

More retail level opportunities to get shots will continue to open/ramp up. When lots of local pharmacies, Walmarts, etc., have free shots available, more folks will be coming for them.

As supply inventories build, the plan is to open up more categories of people to get shots, and many jurisdictions around the Country already started doing that last week. As long as the factories ramp up roughly how they were contracted for delivery, we should see an expanding supply pushing out.

Folks are supposed to be scheduled for their second shot when they get their first, and be given a shot record card. That should help get most back for round two.

Yes, but I recall the vaccine producers strongly urging second shots after 30 days - even at the same time of day. I submit the UK figured out the headaches of that level of precision, and know it’s nearly impossible in government operations. I get the partial benefit of the first shot, but believe the policy change is because of incompetence, not public health.

I’ll take it when it is offered to me.

Initially, I thought they would not get around to me till April, but now I am thinking they might offer it to me as early as February or March.

If the factories come through as they were contracted, and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine gets approved in February, supply might start outstripping demand, and more categories of people will be offered shots sooner.

First possible chance. Simply isn’t any reason why not.

“Any Freepers planning to take the vaccine?”

There have been some who have already posted about their experiences in getting the vaccine (such as gas_dr), and others who earlier had posted about participating in Phase III trials with their family members.

The health care professionals as a group seemed pretty relieved to get it. We have a diversity of opinion on it, and some are dead set against it, as the Mark of the Beast, straight out of the Book of Revelation.

I completed my second of two Pfizer injections last Wednesday. It was entirely painless, and about 12 hour later I had a sore arm and a little but of body aches. It lasted about 6 hours and I was fine the next day.

I was very happy and as of today enjoy virtually full immunity with almost a 0% chance of severe disease. Given that I am seeing and treating this disease I am relieved to have had the vaccine.

The very vast majority of front line workers are equally as grateful and those of us who are familiar with the science will continue to educate on the BS going around about this particular injection.

I look forward to restoration of normal in the next 6 months as the pandemic ends on an accelerated basis based on vaccination.

Glad to hear you finished the vaccine dosage. How many days is required between doses? I’m signed up to receive my first dose but distribution lags demand in my county system (very poor performance of bureaucrats here).
