It’s double or nothing for Nikki Acton.
While many New Yorker couples struggled with an excess of intimacy with their partners during the pandemic lockdown, Acton — a 36-year-old who works in finance just like her husband, Andrew Kobierski, 37 — told The Post that her spacious duplex apartment preserved her relationship.
“The two of us were together 24/7 but could still get space from each other because of the floor plan,” Acton said of her two-level apartment on Cornelia Street in the West Village.
“Otherwise, I am convinced that we would both have felt suffocated.”

Comrade Kaprugina, chairman of the residents' committee, will have a say over how their duplex is distributed among 13 families under the new regime.

You’ve seen Doctor Zhivago. The Gromyko family fled Moscow after their home was `liberated’.

Where I grew up a duplex was a house that was split into two halves, either upstairs downstairs or side by side, both with separate entrances and complete separation from each other. This article changes the definition to a single apartment with an upstairs and a downstairs.

Yeah. It says something about NYC where is is sort of big news -- "The place I'm living at right now? It's pretty awesome. You know what we have? We have stairs. I mean: in the apartment."

Gee, and to think that a generation or two ago, married couples spent their whole lives together with their children without all that angst. What tards.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I (empty nesters) "downsized" to a 2,000 sq ft condo.
Seems a little small. But I do have my den/library to retreat to. Also, we have two bathrooms and bedrooms - just in case we REALLY get sick of each other.
750 sq ft I cannot imagine. That's about the size of our living room.

12 years ago, the former worst governor ever in Michigan caused me to lose my job. We moved 700 miles for a new job. Since the former worst governor in Michigan also destroyed housing values, we were left with negative equity.
Thus, when we moved to an area with a higher standard of living, we had to buy a much more modest house. We went from 1800 square feet to 1100 (plus a full basement that doesn’t count in the square footage-The case with both houses)
Oh-Family of six. Know what we did, we counted our blessings and dealt with it. I finished the basement and added rooms.
The kids have all moved out in the meantime and honestly, the house is well sized for the two of us.
About 5 years ago, I took a different position at the same company and have worked from home since. One of the bedrooms is now a very messy and informal office. My desk is just a table.

Typical NYC apartment. Here is one with the neighbors looking in.

Yeah, we call that a townhouse.
But maybe that’s only if they have an outside door.

Looks like you can do it inside an apartment building, for example if your apartment was on the 3rd and 4th floor. You wouldn't necessarily be the only ones on those floors. Also you might be able to access each floor from the common area or only one floor might have external access.
What Is a Duplex Apartment in NYC?
I never heard of it before. I always thought of a duplex as a house split into two residences.
