Governor (Iowa) wants to mandate blended fuel

DES MOINES — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said Tuesday that she wants to require that all fuel sold in the state to contain either ethanol or biodiesel.

Reynolds’ comments came at the Iowa Iowa Renewable Fuels virtual summit Tuesday where she proposed legislation mandating fuel sold in the state contain at least 10% ethanol and 11% biodiesel.

“I am excited to advance policies that will grow the biofuels and ag industry,” Reynolds said. “As a leader in biofuels production, that means making biofuels the clear choice for Iowa drivers by implementing an E10 and B11 fuel standard at Iowa pumps.”

According to the Des Moines Register, Reynolds would require any new or upgraded retail fuel station to install higher-blend compatible pumps. To help with that goal she proposes creating a $10 million fund, available annually, to help retailers make the necessary improvements to pumps, tanks and other infrastructure to offer the blended fuels. That would be on top of the $3 million the state currently provides annually to retailers who make improvements.

What a crock! Anybody still think voters matter? Iowa politicians are wholly owned by the corn lobby. Ethanol is a terrible product. I hope this doesn't mean that we won't be able to buy real gasoline anywhere other than at a marina or airport. Reynolds is a Republicans, which doesn't mean much.

No one, who values his combustible engine, puts corn oil in his gas tank.

Corn oil mixed with diesel is not a bad fuel, but alcohol always has a percentage of water. Mixed witj gasoline it screws up fuel injectors.

It is a crock. Iowa is one of the states where it's easy to buy pure gasoline. The ubiquitous Casey General Stores are everywhere, and they all offer 100% pure gasoline at their pumps.

Kim Reynolds is another RINO that needs to be primaried. Oh, woe the day that the 19th amendment passed.

The government should reimburse me for all the small engine carburetors I’ve had to change since they started playing with fuel.

“Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said Tuesday that she wants to require that all fuel sold in the state to contain either ethanol or biodiesel.”

It’s obvious she knows what is best, just mix them!

How is it a ‘choice’ if it’s mandated?

Iowa is the King of the corn lobby that got the 10% ethanol mandate for everyone else.

Iowa should be forced to blend their gas at E15 or E20!

So what are they going to do after 2035 when GM is no longer making gasoline cars?

No, not only no, but hell no.

We’ve had to F150’s that will use that high percentage alcohol blend. Both the dealer and the owners manual say the truck will be harder to start. The dealers said the fuel economy and power go down.

I tried biodiesel once. The engines would not start in winter. It took hours to purge that crap from the lines. Sitting out there freezing my tail off in minus 20 degree weather heating fuel lines with a torch to try and get them to drain. It took hours of heating the fuel pump just get one cylinder to fire. The stuff wound up ruining the injectors.

The state of Minnesota mandated biodiesel when it first came out. It ruined the injector pumps of all their snow plows.

Anecdotally, I used to keep meticulous fuel mileage records.
When the state (AZ) would switch to 10% ethanol my MPG would drop by 8-10%. When they went back to straight gas the mileage would go back up.
Of course now it’s E10 all the time.

As per usual, the “follow the science” crowd never fails to show that they’d get a D in second grade science.
