I feel exactly the same way! I have quite watching pro sports. Didn’t watch super bowl, hardly had TV on!
The other thing I remember was on the base at the end of the day at 4:30 they would play retreat, followed by the National Anthem.
In basic training it seemed a heck of a lot earlier.........
The reason we sing the national anthem at sporting events is to unify the two sides of the crowd that hate each other’s team.

Don’t know where you served dude, but I served 23 years in the submarine force. Every, repeat, every base I served on the National Anthem was played every morning at 0800. It was played base wide on the base P.A. system. When it came on everything, walking, cars moving, etc. came to a halt, we faced colors and saluted.
If you were never on a ship then you were never in the navy. You were a REMF.
