Ron DeSantis slams ‘failed Republican establishment’ in CPAC sizzler

Florida’s Governor kicked off Friday’s proceedings at the Conservative Political Action Conference with a rousing speech that demonstrated that, should the former President not run again in 2024, the activists on the right could rally behind him.

-snip-

“We cannot, we will not go back to the days of the failed Republican establishment of yesteryear,” DeSantis thundered, to thunderous applause in the hall.

“We reject open borders and instead support American sovereignty and the American worker. Building a movement on the foundation of amnesty and cheap foreign labor is like building a house on quicksand,” DeSantis added.

“We reject weakness in the face of the threat posed by China,” DeSantis added. “We reject military adventurism and instead support a strong defense solely for the purpose of protecting this nation and its people.”

The Governor, like so many conservative politicians before him, noted that for those on the right, “standing for the right things comes at a cost.”

Invoking the fallen Rush Limbaugh in saying “conservatism devoid of backbone is doomed to fail,” DeSantis spoke to the realities of “cancel culture” and the contemporary right.

If you think you are going to take over the GOP from the Bush League Republicans, you have your work cut out for you.

145 voted to keep Liz Cheney in leadership in the House and conformed their commitment to the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA), that’s 145 that need to be primaried.

Murkowsky, Thune, Hoeven, Blunt, Grassley, Lankford, Lee, Scott and Rubio are all Bush League Republicans and need to be replaced in 2022.

“... only if we can jettison the likes of Mittens, Liz, Kasich, Susan Collins et al...”

Those clowns get a lot of media airplay, but who amongst them is actually relevant in the slightest way?

Mittens? I hate to say this, but he is only where he is because he’s Mormon royalty in Utah. The rest of the GOP nationwide hates him. A can of soda (albeit caffeine-free) could win that seat for the GOP.

Liz? She is only where she is because she’s political royalty in Wyoming. The rest of the GOP nationwide hates her, and Wyoming is coming around.

Kasich? Out of office and out of to lunch.

Susan Collins? She’s perhaps the only one who has some degree of relevance or power simply because she’s holding down a GOP seat in liberal New England. But she is of little importance to the larger GOP. She’s not brining Republicans nationwide along to her way of thinking.

They control the GOP and will not give it up.

I will have to look into his background.
Is he a life long politician?
He may be good as a governor but not sure about President.

The GOP belongs to the VOTERS, who are overwhelmingly conservative. It's the office holders who are overwhelmingly RINOs. All too often, there are not strong patriots to run against these RINOs in the primaries. NOT ANY MORE. President Trump is going to be helping conservative challengers campaigning against the RINO traitors in 2022, and I can't wait to see them pay for their 2020 treachery. We can complain about Dem cheating all we want, but the steal of the century could not have happened without RINO cooperation and foot-dragging.

I will never forget 2020!

I’ve asked this question before...who is recruiting these candidates?

We will see.

They have all the levers of power within the party.
They are not going to give it up.
They regard the voters as a flock of sheep to be corralled for shearing come election time.
Because we keep re-electing them.

Even now after the election betrayal, we have GOP fluffers still trying to verbally browbeat posters on FR to keep voting for the R no matter how bad they are.

The disconnect between the DC establishment republicrats and their voters could not be more stark.

They do not like us, understand us, or work for us. They are our political enemy. Period.

I think Trump is going to apply the lessons he learned to the next two years. IF the MAGA movement can take over at the grassroots level and push the primaries we will take over the GOP. If not, we will be defeated.

I hope this will be Trump’s message at CPAC.

Maybe Ron should fill in Trump, cause Trump is either clueless or hopelessly compromised if he is planning his next admin with more subversive retreads:

Right now DeSantis is y choice for 2024. Even if DJT decides to run.
IMO DJT has too much baggage and negative numbers.
AS much as I like the way he administered the office.

“His name is Donald Trump.”

No, he’s not. The Republican establishment has been recruiting the candidates. That’s why there are so many are “moderates” in congress and state legislatures. Well funded PACs run by people like Mitch McConnell have been defeating conservative candidates for years.

Donald Trump is endorsing candidates. That’s all he’s doing.

IIRC, the Wyoming primary was split a bunch of different ways, and Lizard won with less than 50 percent (corrections invited).

So, Wyoming GOPers will need to work hard to ID the one or two best candidates for Rep, and that choice needs to be super squeaky clean.

The WY primary race will generate national publicity and (one highly suspects) some major outside money.

While he was the GOP nominee and then President, I could excuse his endorsements of Bush League Republicans as acts of party unity. McCain, Graham, Romney, etc.

Post election steal, if he endorses any Bush League Republicans, I will ignore the endorsement.

We will never Make America Great Again by electing Assistant Democrats.

I just finished listening to the DeSantis speech.

DESANTIS IS THE GOLD STANDARD!!!!

DeSantis laid done the gauntlet for what it means to be a TRUE conservative and not just a CINO like most of the RINO’S.

If I find time this afternoon, I will list the points made in DeSantis’ speech so we can compare him to other CPAC speached.

Frankly, I am very weary of Susan Collins playing the “you better be nice to me or I will vote with the Democrats” CARD.
