The Biden administration has decided not to allow Fourth of July fireworks at Mount Rushmore — citing the COVID-19 pandemic — in a reversal of former President Donald Trump’s decision to allow them at the national monument.
The National Parks Service made the call despite Biden saying in a primetime speech Thursday that COVID-19 likely will wane to the point of life nearing normal by July 4.
Parks Service Regional Director Herbert Frost wrote to South Dakota’s tourism office that it it is “only prudent to make plans based on the best available science and public health guidance available today.”...
... “In addition, the park’s many tribal partners expressly oppose fireworks at the Memorial.”
...Trump made a triumphant appearance at Mt. Rushmore last year in one of his first domestic trips following widespread COVID-19 lockdowns. It was the first time since 2009 that fireworks were allowed at the monument.
... Gov. Kristi...Noem spokesman Ian Fury told The Hill that she “is going to do everything in her ability to ensure that we can celebrate America’s birthday with fireworks at Mount Rushmore.”

Great quote by Rep. Massie
Well, there’s always the Crazy Horse monument to consider.
Privately owned.
Be there on the first weekend in June.
You too could stand under a sculpted nose that’s 40 foot high
I don’t recall ever seeing a poster’s original comment being censored by FR admins. Doesn’t mean it never happened before but still... congratulations!
If the far left had their way there would be one last fireworks display on Mt. Rushmore - by way of cruise missiles!
Payback against Kristi Noem I see.
Well...I hope they don’t kill the fireflies that come out in droves at night.
God’s light show far surpasses any Pyro display
I grew up in SoCal. The only fireflies I saw were on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Then as a young man I went to Kentucky, had dinner in downtown Lexington and saw the fireflies for real the first time in my life. I knew what they were, but was still in awe and have carried that memory with me all my life.
Custer State Park is just south of Rushmore.
I grew up with fireflies. I so miss them. They were always magical.
I’m glad he’s not copying Trump
exactly what this is...
exactly what this is...
I grew up with them too. They’ve made a comeback in the last couple of years where I live. They’re beautiful, twinkling in the dark.
THIS 4TH OF JULY HE WILL BE HOSTING A TURKEY DINNER AND WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY EASTER
I see Gov. Noem is going to do what she can.
Good for her!
