The Internal Revenue Service plans to delay this year’s tax filing deadline by roughly a month, to mid-May, according to an official familiar with the plans.
The official said the decision was made in order to allow filers more time to navigate tax situations complicated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lawmakers, led by Democratic Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Bill Pascrell of New Jersey, had urged the move, citing the pandemic.
Last year, the IRS moved the deadline to July 15, giving Americans an additional three months to file their taxes amid the pandemic.

They could simplify the tax code ... or they could give extra time to navigate the endless complexity as it is. What will it be? Extra time to navigate the endless complexity.
Which means that they know, but they don’t care.
Gives the feds more time to float the money they were given and delay sending out refunds. Of course one can file early but many won’t.
They could shove the whole bloody thing...
But will they still require a person to pay any taxes they estimate will be due ON April 15, like they did last year? Thus it is sort of a “fake” filing delay.
Did they also extend the deadline time to pay? If not, how the hell are you supposed to know how much you owe unless you’ve finished the return? Dumb bastards.
The “Republicans” could suggest junking the whole idea of an income tax - which didn’t exist in our country for 126 years after the adoption of the Constitution - and move back to user fees, import duties, and state dues to the Federal government (to be paid for however the states see fit).
Fixing the tax code doesn’t go to the heart of the problem. The income tax is a Marxist idea which actually benefits only those at the bottom of the heap and those at the very top, since it basically uses the citizenry as collateral for the Federal Reserve fiat currency scam.
IRS never gives a delay to pay, only a delay to file.
They are bloodsuckers.
Quit whining, pay your taxes.
I filed and got my return back a month ago, lol
This just popped up on the afternoon news feeds... I’m unsure of the details.
You only file early if you are expecting a refund.
I never get a refund, so wait until the very last minute to pay the basterds.
I’d be happy to put off filing till December.
“Of course one can file early but many won’t.”
I won’t - I expect to owe a few hundred and I’ll gladly make them wait for it.

Trump vastly simplified the tax code for most when he raised the standard deduction. Used to take me 10 to 16 hours to collate and input all my deductions. Now, I can do the whole thing in an hour. I can also use the free version of turbotax which saves me about fifty bucks. Trump also lowered the tax rates which saves even more.
Anybody can get a filing extension, even during “normal” times, but you still have to pay your estimated tax owed. So this year everybody gets an automatic extension on the paperwork, but you apparently still have to pay your estimated tax by 4/15.
This is all Government BS. Just like the EIP payments.
I finished my taxes, was looking at a good rebate finally after my 3rd year in retirement and paying in for 30+ years.
Question in turbo tax asked I (we) received the first 2 stimulus (EIP) checks. Selected yes and my expected rebate dropped $1200 bucks.
Ends up being a partial advance on your rebate if you get one.
Make Taxation Theft Again.
I have a better idea. Just cancel it all together.
Complete bullcrap
I was asked by person doing my taxes if I received the two previous stimulus, she said nothing affects your return, you fully what you’re owed, they just ask for data reference.I
I got what I was expecting, a little more, actually
Not for me.. I actually sent in the turbo tax and removed the yes to the stimulus payment. My tax return was delayed by the IRS, then sent and received with the $1200 deducted. Said I’ll get an explanation in the mail around 22 March on why.
Should have never received a stimulus payment anyway. I’m on a fixed income and the covid crap had no impact.
