White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday clarified that President Biden’s proposed tax hike would apply to people who earn $200,000 per year if they are married to someone who makes the amount.
Psaki said at her daily press briefing that the proposed $400,000 threshold for tax increases applies to “families” rather than individuals.
The clarification significantly lowers the tax-hike threshold announced by Biden in an ABC News interview that aired Wednesday.
Biden’s interview statement appeared to indicate the cutoff would be $400,000 in individual income.
“Yes, anybody making more than $400,000 will see a small to a significant tax increase,” Biden told George Stephanopoulos.
Biden added, “If you make less than $400,000, you won’t see one single penny in additional federal tax.”

In NY, you have to pay quarterly estimated taxes and at year’s end, file your income tax form and make up the difference, or receive a refund for what you overpaid.
If his accountant estimated his taxes that closely, so that the difference he had to pay was only $750, he’s got a pretty darned good accountant.

If you are thinking traditionally it would be 200 filing single or 400 filing jointly.
Tradition has been shot to hell so I still don’t know for sure what it means.
Talking to my insurance agent yesterday about our state. Some fool politician called wanting his input on a proposal to LEVEL insurance rates from the young, middle age and old rate bases that are high, lower and higher to just the lower rate of middle age. My agent tried to explain that rates are risk based and that the middle would have to go up if you lowered the other two. The guy was clueless, didn’t understand. Fourth grade level intelligence at best.
Politicians are only good at being politicians. For everything else they are out of their depth and worthless as tits on a boar hog. Psaki should fit right in. Looks like peppermint patty on charlie brown but not as smart. I wonder if she gets up in the morning wishing she was someone else that was smart?

Most don’t pay a thing already. Just a relative few are carrying the part that is paid for. The rest is just debt making what we get to keep worthless.

It’s a psychological tactic. They need to get the $200k number out there so that they can apply it to individuals making that amount. So far, based on what she said (2 people, each making $200k) it fits his campaign promise...but when it goes to $200k for and individual, then things are different.

Agree and they’re screwed. But it’s still a relatively small number of people, even if they are mostly radical Leftists, and those states are so blue now, that the Democrats don’t have to worry about people getting angry there.

How about a person who identifies as ‘they’ or ‘them’? Point being that the term ‘family’ is now meaningless to the bunch running things.
The wealthiest zip codes (in places like NYC and CA) are going to get crushed by these tax increases.
Those are heavily Democratic zip codes.
They wanted it—they got it!
That was my understanding. Problem is those kind of headlines don’t get attention.
