At one time, Misawa was quite welcoming because the military created more than enough economic benefits to outweigh the bar behavior problems. Apparently, no longer the case, eh?

I was there 2006-2008. But yeah, drunk rowdy airmen, hitting on every woman in town was a thing.
Most of the woman working at the bars in both places were Filipinas, Chinese and Brazilians, brought over ostensively to ‘sing’ but we all know the real reason...

Ah, the "entertainer" visa. Back when I was working for a well-known Japanese company, I went to the Kobe immigration office to get my three year visa renewed.
There was a guy there who looked like a stereotypical yakuza boss with six lovely foreign young ladies in tow to get their visas. Don't know how it turned out, because I was in and out of there so fast with my renewal that my head spun. All I can say is that the guy and girls were there when I got there and still there when I left.
I'm guessing that he eventually got them visas but they didn't want a "respectable" foreigner observing the process.
