A horrible idea. Gas taxes are supposed to be for fixing road infrastructure. Too often, the gas taxes are diverted to unrelated projects. It isn’t always used to fix roads. The same will be true of a mileage tax, it will be diverted to pay for liberal nonsense pork-barrel non-road items. Taxation without representation! I’m sick of paying taxes for things I don’t agree with.
And anything that moves by road will of course increase in cost.

And in a way it already is taxed that way in gas tax.
Eliminate all taxes related to infrastructure especially gasoline as well as the % of the General Fund used for all of infrastructure THEN we can BEGIN talking about this.
For now, a gasoline tax IS a mileage tax.
WA is proposing the same thing while keeping the same gas tax.
We need to figure out how to tax political corruption, grift, treason, bribery and stupidity.

progressive taxes are frequently the most regressive of all. The poor INEVITABLY get hurt, and hurt badly.
The middle to upper class do varying degrees of wincing but their lifestyles do not really change. For the poor, a tax like this will be the difference between eating and not eating every day.

Greece i believe it was did just that- and it was very very effective- they shut down the major highway routes by leaving their trucks on the roads durign hte strike-
How about you government pickpockets throw out all these illegals and use the money not spent on them to fund infrastructure - including a strong, completed southern border wall.
If truck shut down deliveries for just 72 hours a full blown crisis would happen to grocery stores for instance, a whole week and food riots would be breaking out 6
