There’s a separate vote after convection.

Apparently, he and a co-conspirator (who received a midnight pardon from Bill Clinton, I might add) arranged for Justice Hastings to receive $150k in bribes from some Mafia types. The conspirator never testified against him, and he got acquitted in his criminal trial.

HOWEVER, further investigation landed him in hot water. He owed his acquittal to manufactured documents, and false testimony (re: perjury).

He sued on grounds of double jeopardy, and his trial by a committee was unconstitutional. The courts ruled impeachment was beyond their review.

Co-conspirator (whose name I’ve already forgotten) was the Mafia guys’ defense attorney. Since he got a pardon, my guess is the work he and the impeached judge did was very important to The Party, and it’s a shame they got caught so publicly.

Alcee,
May you reap in the afterlife all the rewards you earned here on earth.

If you can’t say something nice about the dead......

It is nice he died.

It would be nicer if he was replaced with conservative.

In the House foe decades. Can’t help but wonder how much his estate has grown in that time.

Not to mention how much has the life style of his district improved in that time?

I do look forward to the increasingly common news of these evil fossils assuming room temperature. What is the average age of the democrats? 80?

Hastings held the distinction of being the only congress critter who was an impeached and convicted federal judge. His idiot constituents will replace him with someone equally corrupt or at least close.

The fate of the republic could be in the hands of one six RAT senators who is avad driver. They are in a state where a GOP governor could immediately appoint a replacement without special election or requirement to replace with same party. A car accident could save the republic.

That corrupt vampire is actually finally dead?

This is the guy that was so corrupt that even as a Democrat he got convicted of corruption as a judge if I remember

Not speaking of the dead - just surprised that somebody who’s been corrupt for that long could actually die

And even more surprised the fact that he got reelected as a house democratic again !

“Democrats hold power by a mere thread.”

And yet, look at all they are doing successfully. A shame Republicans can’t seem to fight like Dems do when they are in the minority.
