Ontario has declared its third provincewide state of emergency as the number of COVID-19 cases surge...

The stay-at home order requires all Ontarians to remain at home except for essential purposes such as grocery shopping, accessing health-care services (including COVID-19 vaccinations) work that cannot be done remotely and exercise close to home with only those from one's household.

Non-essential retailers will be limited to curbside pick-up and delivery. Access to malls will be limited to specific purposes such as curbside pick-up. Big box store retail items will also be limited to selling essential items such as groceries, household supplies, pharmacy items and personal care items...

No numbers in this "cases surge" piece but pitches for vaccination.

Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is dead and his brother Doug Ford the Ontario Premier is high on something. Power perhaps if nothing else.

For over 25 years my summer job has been working at a kids camp in Northern Ontario.

Don't see it happening this year either. Sigh...

Toronto has had more than a year to train personnel and build our facilities to deal with any uptick in hospitalizations.

There is NO excuse for punishing the entire population for Ontario’s incompetence.

The people of Canada long ago gave up individual rights so they could have the “comfort” of socialism ... You can not have both..I hope Americans choose wisely

Let the record show Premier Doug Ford in Ontario is from the “Progressive Conservative Party”.

This is more of the "cases" crap. Nothing about hospitalizations and hospital capacity, the important statistics.

"Cases" just means somebody tested positive, not even that they're sick. And people getting tested is a self-selected population. It's a useless statistic. But, it's a useful tool for power mad dictators to hold onto power.

I have a feeling these liberals will suddenly declare everything “open” and safe from Covid In late May early June until you have one or fall it will be to get back to the summer events you love. However, as he’s elected idiots have no idea how the real world works, all the vents will have been canceled by that point or Won’t have enough time to prepare and be forced to cancel anyway.

Exactly. I know some people who Stay home, only go out to go grocery shopping, etc. haven’t had face-to-face human contact with any friends or family since last March and still go out once a week to get a Covid test. Despite all that one of them did test positive.

Yeah cases have risen I suppose but the national death rate is still trending down. Don’t get what all the panic is about here in Canada. Again the response to COVID is completely reckless.

He actually was even more conservative than that when he began. I don’t know what happened but COVID turned him into a mini Justin Trudeau.

A good part of the problem is that this country is appallingly behind the United States in vaccinating people. And that in turn is due to a health care system that serves the politicians who enjoy the image of being benevolent to all and also the public employees unions that have clerical and janitorial and other such support staff at hospitals and clinics be paid that good deal more than their private sector counterparts. Patients who need care and the health care workers who provide it are far below those first two groups as far as priorities are concerned.

Canada’s Vaccine Mess
By Tracey Lindeman, April 6, 2021, The Atlantic

Canada has universal health care and millions of doses on order. So why are so few of its citizens vaccinated?

Canadians have been overwhelmingly compliant with public-health directives, wearing masks, limiting social interactions, washing and sanitizing our hands ’til our fingertips prune. And what do we get? Per capita vaccination numbers lagging behind those of 50 other countries, including Brazil, Chile, Turkey, and much of Europe, according to Johns Hopkins University’s immunization tracker. The country currently has a level-four travel advisory: “Travelers should avoid all travel to Canada,” warns the CDC.

Hahaha. Sadly, that’s what the US would probably have been like if Biden had his way and done a FedGov controlled vax distribution vs. Trumps let the states figure out what works best for them.

Was on a call today with Truckers who run loads out of Ontario - loads of lumber bought by US contractors will be delayed for months until the border is open.
