I just finished reading a bio of Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979). He died when blown up on his boat by a bomb planted by the IRA.

Louis Mountbatten was the uncle of Prince Philip by way of Louis Mountbatten’s older sister Princess Alice (1885-1969) who married Prince Andrew of Greece (1882-1944). Together they had five children and the late Phillip was the youngest.
The really interesting fact I got from the family tree is that Queen Victoria (1819-1901) is the great great grandmother of BOTH Price Phillip AND Queen Elizabeth.
Seems like most of the ‘royals’ are genetically linked somehow across europe. Russians to Greeks and everything in between. JS
Philip was also the great-nephew of the last Empress of Russia, and more distantly related to the Tsar. He said about the Bolsheviks, “That bloody lot killed my whole family!”
