Not to sound like a jerk, but there’s a difference between government contracts and government subsidies.

SpaceX can bid low because they’re essentially doing the project anyway - Moon is just scheduling another trip.

That Dynetics design was going nowhere, anyway....

A space elevator would go to a station, not the moon. A tether would be far too long to anchor to the moon.

Musk has personally paid more in taxes than gov’t has given him. His ventures have paid back all loans, with interest.

Don’t confuse Musk with “take the money and run” Solyndra.

No, I meant that the lunar Starship will have an actual elevator to go from the passenger area to the surface.

Musk is in the process of having government seize land with eminent domain to help his businesses in south texas. Not cool.

He is also leading the charge in helping to turn Texas blue via tech demographics.

NASA has been in “dog ate my homework” mode on manned missions to the moon for fifty years.

I would not be shocked if it took them another fifty years to get there—and the excuses should be legendary.

As for the private contractors—they will milk the program for all the cash they can get—but at the end of the day I expect to see the Chinese colonizing the place and tearing up any space treaties.

The US has gotten tied up in knots with bureaucracy, anti-white racism, and just plain stupidity.

This will still require NASA for the Gateway and SLS/Orion. They better get their act together. Bridenstein was a great director and got them going pretty good, but of course he’s gone with Trump.

Just hope Biden doesn’t cancel the whole thing before it happens.

He’ll sell the NASA component to China for favors returned

Except NASA will put man on the moon again in 5 years at most, thanks to SpaceX and other US companies.
The Chinese? We will get there again long before they do.

NASA can’t be fixed—they are stuck with the “wrong stuff”.

Human space exploration (especially setting up manned missions to colonies on the Moon and Mars) requires total ongoing determination, total meritocracy (no affirmative action garbage), and zero tolerance for excuses and delays.

The Chinese are set up to make that happen—the US is not.

It won’t even be 5 years.
We’ll get to the moon again before that and before the Chinese.
Don’t forget we already landed men on the moon 50 years ago. After 50 years, no one else has even come close to doing it, including the Chinese.

As long as there is money in it for them - no money, no colony

Yeah?
Let's see who gets to Mars first, SpaceX or the Chinese. It wont even be close. SpaceX by a mile.

Musk knows zip about engineering, mush less aeronautical. He dropped out. He is not qualified to build this. If this Government wants missiles to space capsules, the BSAE, MSAE and PHD in Engineering Mgmt. types are in Hunstville, AL as Von Braun was their inspiration.

I liked Dynetics design too. Incredible and exciting news for Musk and
SpaceX Team. They can do it. Glad Bald headed Bezos Blue Origin
got shut out.
I read a Forbes article today that speculated that SpaceX’s bid was much
lower and that because Congress has been underfunding the moon mission for years, this might be a move to get Congress to up their Moon
Mission funding. I.E. , If Congress wants a backup Company for a Moon
Mission, Congress will have to cough up More money.
