Oscar Ratings Crater, Hit Another Record Low
NRO ^ | 26 Apr 2021 | Kyle Smith

Posted on 04/26/2021 2:54:42 PM PDT by Rummyfan

Everyone knew this was coming, given how pathetic the ratings were for the Golden Globes and the Grammys, but even so, the viewership numbers are a shocking disaster for the Academy Awards broadcast. After last year’s rock-bottom viewership hit 23.6 million and the top award went to a Korean film, Parasite, the average person hadn’t even heard of, this year’s Oscars went full woke. You never go full woke . . .

Ratings crashed 58 percent off last year’s abysmal viewership, down to 9.85 million Americans. Let that sink in: In a nation of 330 million, not even ten million Americans watched the Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ strategy of embracing diversity as a supposed means to bring in younger viewers has proven a complete failure: Ratings were down even more for young adults. In the 18–49 demographic, ratings crashed 64 percent. The star power is gone. The glamour is gone. The public interest is gone.

The Oscars always had problems but in the last decade they’ve become turgid, sanctimonious, predictable, joyless, and boring, not to mention bitter and negative about the country that has created so much splendor and wealth for the lucky few who get to appear onstage at the ceremony. Every year, its top honor goes to a cinematic op-ed destined in most cases to be quickly forgotten rather than an enduring and meaningful piece of entertainment.

Hopefully next year it will be a closed circuit broadcast only to those in the industry. They can announce the winners over Twitter to those that care about that crap.

Crappy awards ceremonies for crappy movies. Good movies are rarely being made today. IMHO, people who think good movies are being made today have simply allowed their “taste” to degrade.

Trump should have had a competing rally and beat them in the ratings...

Add to that the fact that movie moguls are now dictating a certain percentage of homosexuals, blacks, Asians, transsexuals, and shemales in ALL newly released films, and the final nail is hammered.

I suspect that all pre-2008 movies are going to gain a significant resurgence, as consumers seek out movie discs that aren’t consumed with WOKE-ness.

1) make the oscars 1 hour long
2) just do the categories people care about
3) have the host roast the audience (like Ricky Gervais)
4) Hollywood needs to go back to making popular films that are also good
Since the writers strike in 2007 Hollywood has been making blockbusters mainly for the international audience which generally means...they are written to be easily translated as possible.
Popular movies used to win oscars (ex: Titanic).
There thats my free advice to hollywood if they happen to be on free republic

I piss on all of these Hollywood pukes.

I will only attend movies about non-fiction patriotic events.

Period. These people do not get my money. Not one dime

I’ve always enjoyed Kyle Smith when I first began reading him in the NY Post. I have his NR feed bookmarked but like the rest of NR the comment section is chock full of smug pillow biter RINO types who still can’t get over their Trump hatred. They manage to ruin every thread with their monomania.

I did happen to catch one of the harpies 'lecturing' Hollywood for their poor treatment of colored people, I mean, people of color.

Hollywood is run by democrat liberals, which means that it is the harpy's friends and allies who've treated colored people poorly over the years.

Witness a recent news item about Sacheen Littlefeather, who, on Marlon Brando's behalf, was blacklisted after she rejected his award for Best Actor in 1973.

From the article:

She describes how, when she got on stage, she could 'hear the boos and jeers', adding: 'I later learned six security guards had to hold back John Wayne, who was in the wings and wanted to storm on to the stage and drag me off.'

Afterwards she went to Brando's house. 'He told me I'd done a great job,' she says. But it was Littlefeather's last appearance on stage. 'I was blacklisted – or, you could say, 'redlisted'. I was ostracised everywhere I turned. 'No one would listen to my story or give me a chance to work.' Brando, she added, left her feeling 'abandoned'. Michael Caine, who hosted the Oscar ceremony, criticised Brando for 'letting some poor little Indian girl take the boos instead of standing up and doing it himself'.

After being a National Review magazine subscriber since 1993, I will not be renewing my subscription when it expires next year.
I am through with Rich Lowery's constant anti-Trump crap in EVERY article that has to do with President Trump.
The a-holes still can't get over Trump.

In the past actors were considered lower than prostitutes.

They were right in the past.

At this rate, the 2021 Oscars will have an audience of -4 Million. That means at least 4 million people would have paid to miss it.

How many movie releases were there in 2020? Between that and the closed theaters, I am not surprised very few really care about this.
