(CNSNews.com) - Dr. Marty Makary, Johns Hopkins University professor of public health, said Wednesday that there are more people with tuberculosis right now in the United States than those with COVID-19.
CDC Director Rochelle Walenksy changed her mind Tuesday about what she predicted weeks ago of there being “impending doom” of coronavirus cases going up, vaccinations not being where they need to be and deaths continuing to climb.
She said that looking at the curve now, she sees it stabilizing or coming down.
“Look, I respect Dr. Walensky. She’s showing humility there that she basically got it wrong. We knew that the infection was circulating in young people then where the case fatality rate is similar to seasonal flu. If you look at our numbers today, we're about 1/3 the daily cases of seasonal flu during a mild flu season,” Makary told Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom.”
“San Francisco had 20 cases yesterday, most asymptomatic. What do you call that? Is it a public health emergency? Because if it is, we're gonna be in a perpetual emergency, because more people have tuberculosis than coronavirus right now in the United States. So I think we have a distorted perception of risk now,” he said.
Makary predicted last month that the U.S. would reach herd immunity by April.
He said Wednesday that “most of the country has significant suppression of the infection.”
“Right now herd immunity has kicked in. It is not binary. It’s not a finish line, as I said in that article back in February. It’s gonna continue to linger for decades to come, but at very low levels. Right now we're doing terrific with the exception of five states, and even those states are having numbers go down. Michigan is down 30 percent in the last two weeks,” Makary said.
As CNSNews.com previously reported, President Joe Biden took heat yesterday for wearing a mask outside to announce that vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks outside unless they are in a crowd.
Makary said “it’s one thing for public officials to wear masks as good role modeling that masks help, but at some point we gotta give people something to look forward to.”
“Right now a strong message could be sent among those vaccinated who are public figures to say look, once you’re vaccinated, you can take off the masks. That's what I think we should do,” he said.
Makary predicted that Biden, who was fully vaccinated against COVID-19, will wear a mask walking down the aisle to address a joint session of Congress.
“He will. We are asking people even when they’re vaccinated to respect local folks at indoor gatherings, but I do think it’s valuable for people to see folks without their mask on right now after vaccination,” Makary said.

Dr. Makary, we've been in a highly distorted perception of risk for about a year now. Remember when bodies were going to be staked like cordwood in the streets? Now we hear masks are no good, fomite transmission is so low it really doesn't matter, etc.
We've seen this disease pattern before:
It was pure hubris to think we could prevent the transmission of the disease and it was ridiculous to suggest the new Black Death was upon us.

When we were young, Mom worked in Home Health.
And she took us to a patients house and told us to stay outside while she checked on the patient.
We found a well at the end of the front porch.
Cranked it up.
And there was a bucket and ladel.
We helped ourselves to some water.
When Mom found out she had a fit. The patient had TB.
Fortunately, we didn’t get it.
The TB is coming across the border.
And masks help stop the spread of TB.
Another reason to wear them.
