I call BS. There have been thug cops in my town in TX, and some that were the worst were back in the 70’s. But there have been jerks since, and still are. The majority are good guys, but we have had some bad ones reported to the Texas Rangers by peers.
They even do the good cop/bad cop routine. I kicked a LEO out of my office when he was verbally assaulting one of my patients. I opened the door to see the big jerk leaning back in MY chair with his elbow jutted out, hands behind his head, and his feet on MY desk like he was in some scene from a movie about bad Southern Sheriffs.I had allowed him the use of my office as a courtesy, not something to commandeer.
Strangely, I was also on the notification for the alarm system for a friend’s gun shop, which also went off at the Police Station. When the alarm went off, I would meet the cops there to unlock the building, and turn off the alarm while they did a walk through of the building.
Totally different attitude, and demeanor (courteous, helpful, friendly) at the gun shop than I have seen at other times.

At 80 pounds, she would be no threat even if armed with a knife, if the cops were properly trained.
My son and his team took down two armed (knifes), mentally ill men threatening people and them on the streets of DC without having to shoot them or seriously hurt them Combat and good police training told them what to do.
When in doubt, drop back and assess the threat. Then act accordingly or call for more help.

A friend’s son who was a cop in Ft Worth got canned because he lied in a report about seeing a gun in an open glove box. His own body cam showed this to be untrue.
He went to work for the Midlothian Police Department.

Loveland CO doesn’t scrape the bottom of the barrel for cops or anyone else. It’s a much desired location being a small city that still has some small town atmosphere sitting at the foot of the Rocky Mountains just 35 miles from Rocky Mtn. Nat. Park.

I was a LEO and I NEVER did ANYTHING like this. An example... I came into contact with some older fellow suffering from dimentia, alzheimers... didn’t know who he was, where he was from, his name, his DOB, SS#. I could’ve just handed it over to the jail and gone home. But I spent hours and hours talking with him. Eventually... I figured out his identity. I called the home and his wife said “...well, he’ll just do it again...” So I called around and found somewhere safe for him. I did all of this after my shift had ended. YEAH! I was the BAD guy! I was the kind of guy that creates ALL of the problems. This is just one story. I am NOT looking for “thanks”, I’m NOT looking for recognition, I’ve already received my financial recompense. As paltry as it was. But would some of you at least come to the realization that this world is NOT about YOU traipsing through a field of daisies and strawberries.
With video and what we see, the cops do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. I’d suggest you focus on that instead of worrying about lawsuits and settlements. These cops belong in jail.
Usually, when people find themselves in a hole and the hole is getting deeper they have enough sense to quit digging.

If it’s that hard to figure out, three against one confused old lady, then these people don’t belong on the job. They could have easily rounded her up and put her in a squad car without beating her up or taken her back into the store to question and try to find her caregivers.
And I’ll go ahead and say it - it Derek Chauvin and his posse had just put George Floyd in the damn car instead of grandstanding in front of the whole world, a hell of a lot of crap could have been avoided.
They even pull this crap with video being recorded. No wonder there is so much distrust and fear. It ramps up emotions and more cops get killed. It seems to be out of control, on both sides, the people who get pulled over or confronted as well as the cops. They’re all jumpy as hell and things escalate very fast. Like the cop panicking and pulling her gun instead of her Tazer. Are candidates for these jobs being vetted properly? Loose cannons are creating a lot of problems.

They sure do... 3 of my kids work in rest homes as nurses, they sneak out the front door all the time. And it is deemed to not be politically correct to hang a sign around their neck to keep them safe from public society and law enforcement.
