There will be a gun turn-in event on Saturday, May, 15th 2021 in Canton, Ohio. While these events are commonly labeled with the propaganda term “buyback” the guns were never owned by the people attempting to buy them.
Image from googlemaps, cropped and scaled by Dean WeingartenThe initiative includes:
- Community Gun Buyback from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 at the Canton Civic Center, 1101 Market Ave. N. It features $100 gift cards; no questions asked; no ID requirements.
The gift cards are said to be for Walmart. There are few working firearms that are worth less than $100. The group hopes to collect 200, which would indicate about $20,000 available. The structure of the event has been designed to make private purchases of the guns being brought in difficult.
“This was CPD’s idea,” Stone said, “And I said, ‘Hey, how can we help?”
If you participate, here’s what to expect:
- All guns must be operable for the gift cards.
- All guns must be unloaded and transported in the trunk of the vehicle.
- Stay in your vehicle. Don’t get out.
- All guns will be removed by a volunteer who will exchange the firearm for a gift card.
I was at a similar event in Phoenix, Arizona. It turned into a rolling gun show.
The gift cards tend to run out quickly. People who bring guns to the event after the gift cards run out are usually willing to deal with a cash offer. This correspondent obtained some very nice, if inexpensive guns when this occurred in Phoenix.

Probably more than a few stolen guns as well.
Looks like a decent AK 4th from the bottom.
Looks like a Velmet worth a lot more.
Have friend that bought a nice new gun with money paid by the city for his old rusted, broken guns.
Yes that one caught my eye quickly.
Looks East German, but could be Romanian.
Yep, you’re right I missed the charging handle.
The handguns are mostly Saturday night special revolvers, the long guns are mostly .22’s, a few shotguns.
A few there are worth more than $100.
This event would only be open to Ohio residents, correct?
A great opportunity to ditch a murder weapon - no questions asked.
It says, no questions asked, no ID required.
It might be dicey for a non-Ohio resident to buy a gun there.
Very few working guns are worth less than $100, these days.
Marlin 1898 shoulder fired pipebomb.
Good wallhanger...
thanks. Bang to the top
I think people should give unloaded, disabled weapons to toddlers and send them to stand in line.

I’ll bet that Marlin 39 goes home with a cop.
2nd from bottom is that a winchester model7 pump? Makes me wanna cry...even if it is a wallhanger, that’s one cool scattergun.
Just above the Marlin 39A looks like a pretty decent 22 semi auto too.
If I could get there I might be tempted to bring in my old RG mod RG14, not worth much over $100 and it’s in good working condition, pretty much a cheap POS for a 22 pistol, same gun Reagan was shot with. Guy at a local gun show last fall had one for $125, one inch barrel. Mine has a 3 inch.
Those old RG’s have a tendency to fail to locate right, the bullet hits the barrel off center and spits a chunk of lead to the side. Mine still locates properly, but I don’t shoot it much. Stays clean, oiled and ready though...
Then there’s the old single barrel 12 gauge, basically works, but too loose to shoot, barrel wiggles side to side when closed. Harrington Richardson with 1901 patent date. Made it a wall hanger 20 years ago when I found out the hinge/pin was loose, decided it was unsafe to fire any more.Don’t think it can be fixed, and modern ammo would just work it loose again anyway. I bet that old single and the double barrel in that picture are about the same.
Nothing else I have would come anywhere close to anything like this. Those two are old, worn out, not worth much anyway, I wouldn’t miss either one. Even the 1940’s .22 Springfield mod 15 is a keeper. Minor fixing up and it still works perfect. Won’t take a scope, open sights only, but makes quite a nice rabbit gun. Price was perfect, free...if you think you can fix it you can have it...so I did.
